I currently live in the Elizabethtown area. It is really nice. It is smaller than somewhere like Bowling Green, yet it is not too small. Etown is sort of an upscale, small town. There is a good mix of young adults, families with children, and older folks here. We have a mall with some of the more popular stores plus a strip center with stores like Old Navy; Shoe Carnival; Barnes and Noble; Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc. Panera Bread is also getting ready to open here. There are alot of good restaurants from chains to "mom and pop" establishments. Because Ft. Knox is so close, we have a lot of "mom and pop" ethnic type restaurants such as mexican, german, greek, chinese, japanese, and koren food.

Louisville is about a 40-50 minute drive depending on what part of town you live so there is easy access to a larger city if needed, whether it be for shopping, eating out or whatever. A lot of people commute to Louisville for work.

The schools are pretty good, especially ETown City schools. There are also several good private schools and a community college. There is a pretty good hospital that has really been growing.

Lots of nice neighborhoods- new and older. You can still get a home on land if you like. A lot of new neighborhoods are building on acre+ lots which is really nice (I have never cared for neighborhoods where the homes practically touch each other).

As for apartments, we don't have any complexes like the ones you would find in Atlanta or Houston with the gated communities, clubhouse, and pool, etc. However, we do have some fairly nice apartments. There are also townhomes and duplexes.

Property taxes are very low, as well as homeowners insurance.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Thank you so much for replying. This is gonna be my first big time move. I was wondering about apartments and colleges.
My mom was stationed at Fort Knox in the 70's. She said some nice things about ETown, but couldn't be specific since it had to have changed drastically in the last 30yrs.
I'm from New Jersey. A very small town of about 20,000. I didn't want a big city like Louisville or anything. I'm planning a trip in August to drive out that way and check some things out. From what you've said and what she's said, it sounds like a very nice place

I hope that your trip in August was good. I lived in Radcliff, and I loved Etown. I moved from Radcliff to NYC, and there is of course a lot of change when you do that. If I had to move back to KY, Etown would be my 2nd choice, my first being Louisville, but I love bigger cities. There is almost always something for a person to do regardless of age in Etown. The housing there is beautiful, my grandparents in law owned a house there. My family always felt safe in ETown.
