Thank you for these recommendations! I wish we could camp at all of them!

I think we will be staying at one of the state parks not too far from Fort Thomas. We will be relying on my father's car and it's easier not to have to drive too far away from where he lives. Does anyone have an opinion on Kincaid or Big Bone Lick (what a name!)?

Never been to Kincaid, but Big Bone Lick is an enormously interesting place. The name derives from the prehistoric woolly mammoth and giant sloth bones found in and around the salt lick. Some of these bones were sent to Thomas Jefferson, and can be seen on display in Monticello's front hall even today. There's a nice museum there - sorry, no idea about camping possibilities, but the state parks website should provide info.
