courier-journal.com » Jefferson County homicide database

Lexington homicide count running unusually high | Public Safety | Kentucky.com

Louisville/ Jefferson County has had 13 homicides for a rate of 1 per 57,307 residents

Lexington/ Fayette has had 9 homicides so far for a rate of 1 per 32,888

Both are through May 10 of 2011. Interestingly all homicides in Lexington have been in the eastern half of the city - historically the city has been broken down btw North and South sides (divided by US 60)

Both rates are for the entire county.

It still isn't bad for either city in comparison to larger cities, such as Miami.

Well this is interesting, but at the end of the year Louisville will rate higher more than likely.

Let me just state this isn't intended as a flame thread. I live in Lexington now and will likely live here a very long time, so I don't wish the crime rate higher at all. It seems like Lexington has had a rash of crime recently worse than any I can ever remember. Since the 9th murder there have been lots of shootings, including 3 LAST NIGHT (one near Henry Clay HS, the other a double shooting of Centre Parkway).

What is most interesting about Lexington's murders is that they are all on the East side. historically Lex has been divided by North (bad) and South (good) sides. SW Lex has always been affluent, but it seems like many wealthy ppl who commute to Frankfort are building houses off Leestown Rd. That used to be a "bad" area, but is now considered not much different than Garden Springs (where I live) Tates Creek Rd looks prettier than Versailles Rd but has a much higher rate of violent crime.

I lived in Louisville when the homicide rated spiked in the mid 2Ks to over 75. Not fun. It's great the the number of murders there have been steadily dropping.
