My Fiance and I are looking to relocate from hot, humid Florida. My two elderly parents will also be moving with us. I'm their caretaker.

We've always been simple country people. Horses, pigs, chickens, goats, etc. We plan on having some stock for food stock only. We are also avid hunters.

We recently found 3 properties that we like in Columbia. Lots of acreage. We don't have children yet, but we want to home-school our children.

What is the equestrian (horse) scene like there? What is it like in the surrounding ares? I primarily ride English horses (dressage & hunter/jumpers). We plan on either updating a current barn (if one is on the property) or building one. And also building a covered riding arena.

What are the good, bad, and ugly about Columbia?

I'm not sure about the horse riding scene, but I'm familiar the the Columbia area as I used to live 20 miles east of there and still have lots of family in Russell and Adair Cos. I find the Columbia/ Russell Springs area to be very beautifully topographically and clean looking in the towns. Very little crime, also close to 2 large lakes/ rec areas. Basically the downside is that the there are few white collar jobs, it's mostly farming / schools / healthcare / service sector. Also a bit of a drive to the better hospitals in the cities. Of course if you have a good job you have an insanely low cost of living. Land costs a few thousand per acre and $70 k gets you a really nice house

We live about 15 miles east of Columbia in Russell Springs out by the lake. There is a ton of land around here for sale and at pretty good prices. The area is gorgeous.
