You may want to check out Pikeville in Eastern Ky..You say you have worked in the medical field..Our rapidly growing and expanding hospital is in need of most positions frim Secretaries, to RN's, Nurse Aids and most other positions.

.As far as your hubby being a welder there are also many of those jobs available in the machine shops in the mining industry which is alive and well now..

Or you could compromise and come to the central area. I am west of Liberty on the Casey / Adair county line. We are about 25 miles from 3 larger towns, I won't call them cities because they aren't. Although Liberty has small Library it's lacking in other amenities. Campbellsville, Columbia and Danville all have nice shopping areas (No Malls) and are about 30 -45 minutes away.

Not sure about welding jobs though. But since this is "Gate" country with a large number of gate companies I'm sure there may be something for him.

I can surely relate to your present living conditions as I grew up in Mass and lived in Sunny Florida for 17 years where we really did live 5 ft from our neighbors.... so close you could look out your window and see what they were having for dinner ! We love it here and I'm sure you will too.

We just moved to western KY, Murray actually, and are loving it. We came from NJ and what was interesting in the research of the move, the moving company provided resources of the risk of different weather and crime between two locations. We were actually more likely to experience severe winds and hurricanes in NJ than we are to a tornado here in w.KY. As been said before, the area has farmland, wilderness in the LBL recreation area, houses at reasonable prices, and we're within 30 minutes or so of 3 Wal-Marts with one right here in town. Murray's also great because it has the university and all the resources that come with it.

sounds great, especially when many people have responded from the east coast and truly can compare the weather, culture and cost of living! I have looked from Maine to Florida about perspective places to settle down. Then move a little inland. within 3 years of research many of the areas have gone up in home prices, and seemingly had less jobs available. KY seems to remain stable, my 2nd prospect would be Ohio. I did get one nasty person calling me a chair traveler .......... I have accomplished by mid age everything I have wanted to do in my life, cept own that lil old farmhouse with no mortgage. I know this too will happen sometime next year! I am happy you have had positive experiences in KY, makes me wish I could up and leave now ..... thanks for sharing your experience!!

4 acres and your little farm house.....already fixed up.

It's in a very pretty area.....

The TREASURE of Kentucky is her people. If you come to Kentucky and join us as a people, you will find that treasure. If you come to Kentucky and complain about who we are, try to change us, and kick us to the curb with your ideals, you will find tragedy and outrageous poverty (in your own pockets).

I hope you will come to Kentucky, but come be happy. Be part of us, not an ugly duckling on a large pond full of beautiful swans.

Tom,
Definitely coming with an open mind and warm heart! Hoping to meet new people and especially some elders who I can enjoy hearing them reminisce about their younger days. In my neighborhood as a matter of fact to take a 2 minute walk turns into at least a half hour (L) I am surrounded by friendly folk, and sure hope to find that same pleasure when we move. Just will less noise and hustle and bustly!
