military advantage to moving to KY/TN/NC/SC (Lexington: home, good schools)

Hello all,
I am a military Nurse anesthetist (CRNA) looking at retiring in a couple of years and need to look for a place to settle down. Currently our research and experience is leading us to choose between Charlotte NC, Greenville SC, Nashville or Knoxville TN (perhaps Clarksville) and Louisville or Lexington KY. We are pretty open minded at this time and want some advice on any military tax advantages, location of commissaries/exchanges/medical facilities, etc. My wife and I have one, 1 year old son and are very interested in a family oriented town with good schools, possibly private christian schools. We are hoping for a city that has a good downtown or similar area with lots of trees, shops and cafe's to waste an afternoon in. I am a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and wonder what the practice environment is like in these areas. We are conservative (real suprise) and look for people with similar values. Any suggestions?

We would love to have you in Hopkinsville. You can read my post in " Describe your Kentucky city" for a brief description. But if you want to see a GREAT downtown check out Franklin Tennessee. That's the only city I've ever visited that has an almost flawless downtown. I believe you would love it. Franklin is clean, green, family oriented, and expensive. It's no wonder that Nissan is building their North American h.q. there. To be honest, it's a place to be envied. P.S. Hopkinsville is home to Heritage Christian Academy. If I'm not mistaken it is the largest private Christian school in Ky. (about 425 in K-12) It is a great school. Tuition runs about 300 per month. I can hook you up with two physicians who are the board if you like. One is a very close friend. You can Google it and get more info. And yes, I do have a child in school there. I also have a personal friend on the board at Unity Christian in Clarksville, Tennessee so I could help you there as well.
