Default Relocating to Richmond...or Frankfort

My sister and I just finished high school and we think we want to move to Richmond or Frankfort. We are pretty sure that we are going to choose Richmond but do you think that would be a good choice for us?
We are not going to further our education at the moment so school is not a issue we just want to find a decent job to live in a $500ish for a ONE bedroom apartment. Where we live MUST be pretty safe though!

If you have any information you can share on Richmond or even Frankfort that we might want to know please let us know!
If you know of any decent apartments that you think would work for us we would really appreciate it. THANKS!

Richmond and Frankfort both have populations of college-aged people, so it's likely you could make friends in either town. Richmond has a brand-new arts center which is pulling in some big acts, but Frankfort is the more cosmopolitan and more sophisticated of the two towns and I think has a somewhat higher living standard in terms of available housing, average educational levels of citizens, more museums, shopping, parks, cultural activities and so on, much of which is due to its status as the state capitol.

I expect you all could be quite happy in either place, but in your shoes, I think I'd go for Frankfort.

That's true. Frankfort would probably be better for us.

I second CraigCreek's suggestion of Frankfort. An interesting blend of hillbilly, just plain country, sociopolitical, cosmopolitan, educated, and blue collar. It is, in my mind, the quintessential representation of Kentucky because of the local demographics; most are natives but transplants come from all corners of the state.

Many that look at Frankfort have traditionally ended up in Lawrenceburg, just to the south. I wouldn't recommend it.

Richmond, quite frankly, is a dump and it shouldn't be. They have the new Richmond Centre shopping center and they have a nice new southern semi-bypass with McClellan Lane, but even with EKU the town doesn't exactly have an intellectual vibe.

Frankfort's slightly more expensive because of property tax rates and local fee assessments, but in my mind it's worth it. Don't let Frankfort's slight population loss in the 2010 Census fool you; Franklin County continues to grow slowly.
