Property Taxes
We're looking to relocate to KY. How do we figure the property taxes? The realtor told us to figure $9.00 per $1,000/price of the house. Thanks!!

It totally depends on the exact (no, not necessarily just even next door) location of the property you plan to purchase. The Realtor could have been perfectly on target for the home you were considering. You will need to go to Kentucky: Department of Revenue - Property Tax to get your exact rate. I'll be happy to help you figure it if you need.

Yes, I think it differs by city and county.

Centre, you are so right, but there are special taxing districts all over Kentucky that do things such as special drainage ditches, fire & ems, libraries, and so many more usually worthwhile local projects.

As tomocox said, that link will give you all the necessary info by county, and gives
you all the rates for your auto, and living in the cities in that county.
By the way, tomocox, used your friend hunt4karyn@aol.com to find a house, and
had a fantastic experience. Thank you !!!

Okay so then Warren county is a lot more expensive than Adair. Adair is another county we are considering.

You must know the exact address of the property. Kentucky allows for special taxing districts such as ambulance, watershed, library, and fire protection. There can be two closer fire departments to your house than the one that taxes you. Weird, but it does happen. Your Realtor should be a reference, but I would call the local Property Valuation Administrator (PVA) office to determine the exact taxing districts that affect your planned property.
