Default Bowling Green to Nashville-is it a reasonable communte

Wondering if it is reasonable to live in the Bowling Green area and commute to Nashville. May be working night shift-7p to 7a at one of the hospitals in Nashville. Will be relocating and would prefer to live in KY for many reasons.
Would like some opinions.
Thanks

Google Maps says from downtown to downtown, it would take over an hour. Depends where in BG you want to live and where in Nashville you'll be working.

Would be looking at south of Bowling Green, close to the KY-TN border. Would be working at Vanderbilt.
Curious if there are a lot of people who make the commute from that area to Nashville.

Both cities are on central time, which means sunset comes around 4:30 during early winter, perhaps something to consider. Do you want to make this partly hilly drive in the winter dark?

You'd be going against the flow of traffic for the most part, but the northern Nashville 'burbs seem to extend farther and farther each year, and speed limits drop as you approach the city. Vanderbilt is located close to downtown Nashville. For me, such a daily drive would quickly lose its charm and become drudgery, but your take may differ, of course.

Nashville has some delightful neighborhoods, but if you're determined to stay in KY and work in Music City, why not look at Franklin, KY, which is considerably closer to Nashville than is Bowling Green?

My Uncle use to live in Bowling Green and work in an Airplane factory in Nashville -commuted for years, that way.
He finally moved to Nashville though - I think it had more to do with taxes, (Tennessee had no state income tax then,
(not sure about now) but Kentucky did, and so it cost him thousands in tax dollars - so eventually because to that he relocated.

My partner works in Bowling Green and lives in Nashville. Even though he drives against traffic, it still gets old. He has worked at his company for 20 years...so he's not going to quit, but it would be much easier if his job was here. Obviously, the commute is doable (since he does it) but he would prefer not to. There isn't an income tax in TN, but the sales tax is higher than KY. I once calculated how much he would have to purchase in a year in TN to equal the amount of income tax he pays in KY....it was something like $200,000/yr in purchases. I would try doing the commute a couple of times, just to see if you think you could deal with it every day. Vanderbilt is in a really congested part of Nashville too. Good Luck with your decision.
