Default Lawrence Co./Louisa Question

Hi,

What is Lawrence Co. like? We are looking into moving to Eastern Kentucky, So far I have checked out a few counties on the internet and have come to like Lawrence Co.. I was looking at Louisa. Can anybody share information on that town? I heard they just got a Wal-mart.

We are looking to buy a house with at least 5 acres of land outside the city limits. We have an internet job so we are not looking for work. We homeschool so we are not looking at schools. Just a nice place to raise our family, have the internet, dish network and a cell phone.

Thank you for your time and help,
Oneida

Louisa is the largest city in Lawrence co, and the Co seat, I believe. It is a small town and mostly rural. It did just get a wal mart. There is not a lot more there. The school system seems ok. As part of my job I call on kids in the High school. It's a fairly new building. There is very little to do in the way of entertainment. Few restaurants, no theaters... I would not move there.

You may want to think about Rowan County....(Morehead), or even Carter County (Grayson). These areas offer a bit more than Lawrence County... Lawrence County is just very very poor and very rural. :c)

I just love talking about Rowan County.... great city library.. also MSU has a library on campus. Town of less than 6,000 people. Surrounded by the mountains. Sits right off I-64. About one hour East of Lexington and about one hour West of Huntington, WV. Has a Wal-Mart. Super Wal-Mart grand opening in December. Has movie theater with one showing.. but new theater is being built now over by the Buffalo Wild Wings. Have plenty of the most well known fast food chains.. Has a GREAT city park (**with swimming pool, kiddie pool, tennis courts, skater/BMX park, several basketball courts, several baseball/softball fields, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, barbeque pit & picnic areas and the park sits right on a small river you can fish in**) several restaraunts including two great chinese places, police and fire depts, MSU, about 20 beauty salons, tattoo parlor... several daycares... and is about 10 miles from Cave Run Lake which offers swimming beaches, boating, fishing, camping, etc. To beat all that... Morehead sits in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest. (It's location is on I-64 between Fayette and Boyd Counties). I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you to please check us out here in Rowan County... I don't think you'll be disappointed!!! :c) Good luck and welcome to Kentucky!!!
