The Bar Complex is where many of the GLBT (I still insist that the 'T' shouldn't be part of GLB) hang out now. If THAT leaves, then there just won't be anything left for them (and me) in this part of Kentucky. Except for Louisville, I can't imagine the rest of Kentucky is any different. Probably worse, am I wrong? There is a cross dressing (CD) meeting that occurs the first Saturday of each month in Lexington, but I've heard that the meetings aren't supportive (just a bunch of bragging and boasting, and some rather outlandish behavior and 'fashion sense').
You should move to Atlanta or Charlotte honey. You would fit right in just fine!!! You are BRAVE for staying in KY!!!
I am a white female married to a black male BTW!!!

Hmm, you say brave for staying in KY - a state - and say move to Charlotte/Atlanta - both cities.

So that means the other parts of the state for both cities - NC and GA - are just open and ready to embrace alternative lifestyles huh?

Stretch to say urban lifestyles/beliefs = statewide lifestyles/beliefs.

Here is yet another reason why people don't want to move to Kentucky. HORSES. Yes, believe it or not, this state still holds onto the notion that it is the 'horse capital of the world'. The biggest architectural change I've seen in Fayette County (county that Lexington resides in) of late is millions upon millions of dollars being poured into changing the Kentucky Horse Park and sprucing up the mega horse farms in the outlaying areas. After that you've gotten the fast growth of the Hamburg area (which is nice by the way). Beyond that? Hotels. I have NEVER seen so many hotels popping up as I've seen popping up in Georgetown and Lexington. Why are they appearing so quickly? For the upcoming 2010 World Equestrian Games. They are *hoping*, I mean HOPING that mega rich people will come to see these Olympics For Horses, and just fall in love with the area and want to invest in the growth of the state. Folks, there's nothing to see here, move along.

Asheville NC is VERY GAY friendly. It is actually the most gay friendly town in the state and seems to be proud of that fact. It is also less than 1/3 the size of Lexington.

Two problems there, hon. One of them being that I don't like small cities. Well, Lexington IS small, but Asheville would be really small. The other problem is, and this may offend some of the gay members on this site, is that gays in general DO NOT like transsexuals. I'm sure most of you could figure out why that is, so I'm not going to elaborate (in fear of starting an argument).

Lexington does have a large gay population per capita. Maybe, as TT pointed out in reference to alternative lifestyles, there aren't as many places to socialize but there is a good sized population coming mostly from those escaping more rural places, less accepting places.

"Seems to be proud" of the fact sounds like biased opinion b/c you think NC is a nice state.

Your only reference in this whole thread is your negative experience in Richmond, KY. No offense but you don't seem to know the rest of the state. You don't like the state which is fine but your sample size is less than adequate. Nuff said.

If people don't like places, they should move and you did so why continue to rant on a topic you know little about?

I think another reason why people do not want to move to Lexington is that it does not support a nighttime lifestyle. Aren't chain fast foot restaurants open all night in bigger cities? What is Louisville like after, say for example, 9-10pm? Does everyone there just roll up their carpets and shut off the lights? I am a nightowl, and when it starts to become late I'm looking for fun. And, it depresses the hell out of me to drive around and ..... nothing ......

Louisville stays up later than Lex. Even after Lex changed the last call time I never got the sense that places stayed open and people stayed active that much later than before.
