well i lived here my whole life really and its not like a place where theres a sign that says ''come here to live''. Its a nice place if your looking for cheap houses and schools, But kentucky you see isn't really developed into more a urban place, its still mostly farm land and most countys have people of the same name for generations. west of kentucky and eastern is diffrent because of that west new people come in al the time and east are staying for years and years. a reason might be that the population decilines is the military families, fort knoxs has troops move out and in the state all the time.

Agreed, I've lived here basically my whole life. There just isn't a lot of growth and the opportunities found in other places, simply do not exist in Kentucky.

Gosh. I am not sure from which part of Kentucky you all hail, but this state is in fact growing in population.
2000 4,041,769
2001 4,067,643
2002 4,088,977
2003 4,114,489
2004 4,140,427
2005 4,172,608
2006 4,206,074
The state is gaining about 100,000 people every 3 years. That kind of growth isn't simply from natural increase. The growth is centered in the Golden Triangle cities of Louisville-Lexington-Northern Kentucky. Many counties in Eastern Kentucky are losing population because the younger people are going to college and moving to places like Lexingoton, Louisville, Nashville, Atlanta, et cetera, and the older generation slowly fades away.
Eastern Kentucky is economically depressed, and I guess if you lived there you would think the whole state is the same way; but it isn't. The Golden Triangle (where the majority of Kentucky's citizens actually live) is doing fine for itself and is comparable to any other region in the US.

For those who care, some of our nations finest public schools are located in and around the triangle Louisville, Covington, Lexington, with some very solid educational opportunities in areas such as Owensboro, Henderson, Bowling Green and several smaller systems.
A major issue in Kentucky is fear. Most of Kentucky is made up of Scotch-Irish who by nature are very libertarian. Until the US Civil War, Kentucky was one of America's bright spots educationally with great colleges such as Transylvania, Centre, Georgetown, and several Catholic backed colleges.
Now, due to those historic fears, many Kentuckians are afraid to trust and wind up following carpetbaggers who profit by keeping the people they supposedly represent poor and afraid.
The Kentucky I have known for my 55 years is quite a story. While I have never known the pain many have felt, I have also seen thousands of people achieve success on a par with any people anywhere.
One thing I will share is the faith of Kentuckians. As a people, we are deeply religious and hold our faiths near and dear. It is because of that faith, I believe, Louisville is considered such a friendly place.

AH.... I can't wait to get there !!! Like Floridahater... I too am living in Florida, east coast. I too am middleaged person looking for rural life. Don't need those expensive shopping places, expensive tourist places, fancy dinning, broadway plays... don't play golf/tennis don't go to the beach, never been on a cruise.... NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!
We are tired of long commutes for hubby's job, 55 miles, HOT HUMID summers that get longer every year !!! and TRAFFIC. Stores are 5 miles away and takes us 30 minutes to get there with 9 traffic signals !!
I feel bad for young people trying to make it in this area. They come for the weather, parks and fun... then find out they have to save for 6 months in order to spend 1 day at one of the Parks. Seaworld announced another price increase just today....It now will cost $67.95 for an adult one-day/one-park ticket to SeaWorld Orlando, up from $64.95. The cost for admission to Discovery Cove is $289 during the high season and $269 off-season. Prices do not include tax. This is right in line with the previous increases for Univeral Studios and Disney !!!
I'm fortunate to be working from a home office and making good money. We bought 60 Acres near Liberty two years ago... and have started to build a new home there.... now if I can only sell this one here in Florida !!!

Well, I wish you good luck! I will be following soon (I hope). Florida is overrated. People complain about the cold up north, but here one has to live in unrelenting heat with air conditioning month after month in Florida. Honestly, it's miserable! The prices go up and the wages are pathetically low. For those who like it, I am happy for you all. For those who would desire to live here, I would say that you should check it out first. All I know is that I loathe this entire swamp! I have lived all over this great nation, and this place is the worst of the worst!

YIKES... onlyl 100,00 in 3 years. Here in Sunny Florida we get about 1,000 people A DAY moving in... of course it's slowed down in the last few years... but it's still a HUGE amount of people that can't wait to soak up the sunshine.
