Any Singles???
As I've stated in previous posts, it is my intent to move somewhere in the great state of Kentucky next May or June.
I'd like to hear some input from other single men or women who made the move or are considering it. The concerns are somewhat different for singles as opposed to married people. I think my biggest concern is the financial end as I'll be leaving my job and having to find another. Also, until I meet other people and find a job, I won't have anyone to talk to except my two dogs. Although I will admit, the majority of my conversations are with them right now and they understand almost everything I say. My youngest is a year old and is deaf but he still understands my hand signals.

GB, while I certainly appreciate your concerns. I totally understand as I have been a single man for more years of my adult life than married. I was a single man raising a young daughter alone during 11 of those years, too. While being a single man isn't as lonely as a single mom typically is, most of Kentucky has singles opportunities that range from churches & social groups to simply the bar scenes. I don't envy you or other any single person, especially primary care single parents, but at least there are other singles in Kentucky, too.

Yea, I am also single, moving to KY and I sometimes have the same concerns, although I"ve moved throughout the country by myself---why should KY be any different? I will say that on the west coast, it's harder to make connections with people and to really consider your neighbors your "neighbors." I miss the type of community where the back yard fence is really used for socializing instead of a barrier between property lines. Where I live people are very insular, and I am hoping to move to a warmer type of people.

Hi gb!
Now not being single for the last 16 years I probably can't relate, but that statement; "I think my biggest concern is the financial end as I'll be leaving my job and having to find another" is equal single or married. Probably more so if married and have a family. Now were talking about making the bacon for 4 instead of just one. Talk about pressure! All new job, new location, $$ unknowns, ect., ect. Stressfull for anyone. With all these nice people on this forum, there has to be some singles who can get you started on the right path in KY! Really, I think you will be fine, people are more hospitable in KY, so that will only make it easier to meet your match! Your dogs will definately like the country more! Hah. Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine, just be optomistic and yourself, and all is good!

I am not single...however my fiance are in our early 20's and will be moving to Louisville. I have some of the same concerns. I have to find a job and meet people. I have family but friends are so important. I don't know how to meet people other than through work or if I had kids like the mommy & me classes you know. I usually meet all my friends through other friends! I hope that everything works out for you I am sure we will be talking again!

I have been to several cities looking at various career paths while researching living expenses etc. I am happily single looking for a city that has just enough population to offer a wide variety of opportunity. My favorite thus far in terms of warmth of people, ease of moving throughout, safety, access to amenities and cost of living is Louisville KY.
While I love other areas as well, such as Phoenix AZ. or Atlanta GA., Louisville has that something you instantly feel that you want to call it your home.
*edit* Oops I do apologize, I thought I was in the Louisville forum and not the state forum. Aside from crossing I-24 to Atlanta from Illinois and visiting the above mentioned city, I really haven't been throughout KY. Good luck with your search GB.
