With the influx of other races and cultures to the Medical School at UP and the continuing expansions of the Medical Center, we have not seen any problems.

Many of the Foreign born Doctors stay here and settle in just fine with their families and are a welcome and valuable asset to the community.

As far as finding a neighborhood to live in..well that depends on whether you plan on renting or buying and what you want to spend. You really need to contact one of the Realtors in the area. A search of Pike Co. Realtors will give you a listing of them.

I don't easily pass for white and I think it's fine, for the reason that Pikeville is a simple place if anything. I'm guessing though if you're speaking loud Spanish or walking with ur butt cheeks hanging out that could draw racism, it does even in the ethnically diverse place I grew up.

Pikeville itself isn't particularly diverse but the Osteopathic school has certainly added to it. Where I grew up (Grundy, VA) is pretty close to Pikeville, KY and it's actually experienced similar demographic trends. We've recently built a law school (Appalachian School of Law) and our demographics have become slightly more diverse which most see as an asset to our community. Pikeville also has a really fun annual festival called Hillbilly Days which will help you integrate into the community. I used to go every year before I moved away and it's a great way to mingle and meet people. Just make sure to keep an open mind! lol
