My husband & I are seriously considering buying a small farm in the general Greene County, KY area. We were impressed by several things that we saw on a recent visit there and are more than ready to leave Atlanta, GA after living here for 40 years (him) & 20 years (me). We are tired of the traffic, pollution, crime, politics - among other things.

I have several questions that I'd appreciate information from residents of the Greene County area (sorts of things the realtors don't usually tell you). Is the soil suitable for planting fruit trees, roses, and vegetables? What are the available schools and medical facilities like? Are there any decent-sized employers in the county or within a tolerable commute? Local/regional politics? Is the community kind of a live/let live area or is it highly conservative? He is in very good health (aside from liking biscuits & gravy too much) but I have serious asthma. The pollution is Atlanta is ever-increasing & I need to get to clear, cleaner air.

There is also the possibility my single (under 30) daughter & her family (2 school-age boys) will eventually relocate to be closer to us. Suggestions for meeting people, employment, and school for her & her children?

Our family is very self-sufficient, flexible, comfortable with all things rural, well educated w/ good job experience. My husband is a consultant who can live pretty much anywhere; I would probably be interested in something part-time; my daughter is an experienced bookkeeper working towards an accounting degree. We're all ready for a change but would like to hear from other folks who know the area first-hand. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
