Ok, this might be a bit of an off-the-wall thread. I'd like to know which area of Kentucky has the most pickers and Bluegrass music? I play the Fiddle, Mandolin and the Banjo, and I know that there's pickers all over Kentucky but I'm especially interested in the Louisville area and areas around Louisville. Would I have some pretty decent chances of forming or getting into a good group in that area?

This may be the dumbest question that's ever been asked LOL

This is for statewide, not just the Louisville area but here's about the Bluegrass and country music areas in the state.

Thanks I appreciate this and I'm aware of all this but I was hoping for some info a bit mor specific. Opry houses, groups musicians, public places where folks get together and jam and play? Any around or close to Louisville will be especially interesting.

I mean, I know there's lot's of pickers that get together in rural Kentucky at different house the what I call "enquire locally types" just roll into the little towns, find the nearest country store and ask who lives around there that picks and where do they live...LOL

However anyone know of any "open-mic" or parking lot pickings in and around Louisville or Lexington in particular? Any ones that you guys can think of, maybe you've seen one somewhere one time just passing through, let me know..

There are free outdoor bluegrass concerts on Tuesday evenings during the summer just outside of the bowling lanes on Southland Drive in Lexington, with jam sessions after the featured performers.

The fire station on Old Richmond Road near Grimes Mill Road (in Fayette County, outside of Lexington) used to be a center for pick-up bluegrass - give them a call and see what's happening there nowadays. I think they get together one night a week.

We will be moving to the Northern Part of McCreary county in a year or so. I also play fiddle and guitar. I would love to meet some more pickers! We are building a huge front porch on our house that would be perfect. Cant wait.

Am I invited? We'll be living in the Louisville area unfortunately. I'd hate to have to drive to Lexington or all the way to SE Kentucky for good music jamming LOL!
