Although I have only passed through, it always looked like a nice little town to me. I also remember playing little league tournaments in Stanford. Looking at the crime data it looks like there was 0 reported Murder, Rape, and Robberies in 2012. Theft looks like the only decent spike worth mentioning, and I am sure that is mostly confined to one area, like most towns in Central Kentucky.

It is a really small little town, I can't imagine much crime there...but I have never lived there, only passed through.
I have known two people who lived there, one loved it, the other one hated it, because she was from a big city, and she didn't like living in a small town like that (just like some people who live in small towns, would probably hate the big city.)

I live in Danville (near Stanford) and we find that property crime here is a huge problem. Lots of drugs in the area, and people will steal anything that isn't nailed down. If it's nailed down, they'll just steal a hammer to pull the nails out. Last summer alone, we had our backyard shed broken into at least twice (2 lawnmowers, 3 window air conditioners, a ladder, and a generator), and our car once. The police really don't seem to care much. We also find a lot more crimes of violence here than I'm used to, coming from up north. Lots more shootings and murders in the area than I'm used to, but again, that's Danville, not Stanford.

But, the good side of it is, this is the kind of area where your neighbors will keep an eye on the place when you're not home. That makes up for a lot, and that's something you can definitely expect in Stanford.

They must be keeping it quiet down that way Albert. I don't hear much about Danville or Stanford but, on the other hand, I hear a lot about Lexington and Louisville though.

You're right Albert, good neighbors are priceless. I know my neighborhood wouldn't be a safe place for a pill/meth head thug.

My mom's family lives in the county sw of Stanford. There has been problems with theft, usually it's drug addicts. My aunt that lives off a fairly busy state route has had 2 truck trailers stolen. One time they used a chain cutter, another time her dog was shot at (they missed). A lot of houses nearby have been scrapped clean when people are on vacation. The problem in the country is everyone knows your routine and with Facebook they can see when you're on vacation. My in laws in rural IN had the same thing happen to their neighbor. Some low life acquaintances knew when they were going out of town and took everything of value. They were arrested but not after it was too late to recover the stolen items. The church there also got the projector stolen.

Truth be told I feel much safer in a safe part of the city. Your habits are harder to pick up and there's more eye balls and police to prevent crime

This is EXACTLY what happens here in Argentina. The only difference here is that it happens in the city, not so much in the country. They scour social media and try to find out when you're on avaction and then hit your house while you're gone. Even in some cases going so far as to bore a hole in the wall of the side of your house or through the roof to get in!

It's best not to tell folks and also not advertise your life in facebook.....criminals regularly use it.

I live in Stanford and it is a great place to live! Historical, small and charming. We are centrally located 40 miles from Lexington 60 miles from The Big South Fork which is an undiscovered jewel, 25 miles from I-75, 3 1/2 hrs from The Smokey Mtn National Park. Stanford is between the rolling bluegrass horse country and the knobs. Check us out.

Stanford is a terrible, drug- and crime-filled area. Stay away. We moved from a large city and there was less crime per 1000 people than here. Too many drugs and too lmuch free time lends itself to crimes, and a lot of it. I regret moving here with my family and little kids. If it wasn't for Centre College, we wouldn't be here.
