If you want to check the price of housing anywhere go to REALTOR.com - Real Estate Listings & Homes For Sale . Just put in the city you're looking around. You can even put in your price range and see what there is.

Default Check out Hopkinsville

$2000 a month? Definitely check out Hopkinsville...Hopkinsville-Christian County Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development, Visitor's Bureau is a great site for relocation information. For $2000 a month, you can find a ton of possible rentals not to mentin many great homes for purchase.

Hopkinsville is a growing community with a progressive vision for the future. True, this community has had its fair share of challenges, but leadership is tackling each and every issue head on...which is inspiring to me.

I'm raising my two children in this town after having lived several years in Minneapolis area. There are things I miss about MN, but the sense of community and low cost of living are hard to beat in Hopkinsville!

Would like rent under 2,000 a month. Would be nice if the area also had clean water and air. I would say that I wan a beautiful place but it looks like most of Kentucky is beautiful!
Without being too descriptive, does your son have special medical needs? If so, I would advise being close to Louisville. Few people realize just how advanced medical research and care is in Louisville. Educationally, while specific schools are solid in certain districts, there is no better public school district in Kentucky and arguably the United States than Oldham County.

Default Madisonville is the Best Town on Earth

Carolmora,

Have you decided on a place yet? If not, you really should check out Madisonville, KY. The schools are better than state averages (I know I'm going to offense some Kentuckians with that statement) and the community is so family friendly (and safe).

Best of all, housing is so much less than elsewhere. Here's an example... I own a 5bd/3.5bath 3600 sq ft home with a 40,000 gallon heated pool that I am about to put on the market for $289K. I looked for something equivalent in Knoxville where we're moving... $450K! Ouch. I've also lived in Ohio and Michigan, where I can say the same house would fall between $375-425K.

The town doesn't have a lot to do, but you can create that in your own home (if you have a giant pool like mine!) or go to Evansville which is a 45 minute drive. Nashville is less than 2 hrs away and you can do just about anything there.
