Help finding a place in Kentucky
Hello everyone! I am considering moving to Kentucky and have a few questions. I am looking for a place that has LOW crime rate and is sunny most of the time. Cold weather does not bother me but I do like the sun. Would like good schools and quality health care for my son. If I do decide to move I will rent for the first year to see how I like it. Would like rent under 2,000 a month. Would be nice if the area also had clean water and air. I would say that I wan a beautiful place but it looks like most of Kentucky is beautiful!

Kentucky Winters are greater than 50% cloudy days. It can get quite gloomy here between mid November and mid February.

That's ok for the winter. How about the rest of the year? You mostly have pine trees?

Most of KY is deciduous forest.

Yes, it does get cloudy in winter Panoramio - Photo of Levee Bike Trail
Areas to avoid (my opinion)
-- Bullitt County - only 9% of residents are college graduates
-- Lexington - terrible traffic, snooty people, park system is a joke
Best areas
-- Louisville East of I-65
-- Oldham, Shelby, Franklin, Woodford, and Scott Counties

You want a place to rent under $2000/month? Come out here to western Kentucky. You could rent 3 houses for that. Friendly people, good hospitals, good schools, good places to go for a "day out of the house". Or sit out in the yard and visit with your neighbors!

There are other cities to check out past Owensboro. Kentucky does go further west. Try Paducah, Madisonville, Henderson, Mayfield, Murray, Hopkinsville, etc.

place in Kentucky
Come on down to Frenchburg Kentucky, good schools and friendly people and the rent is cheaper then 2000, a month. Bless your heart you need people to be honest this day and time. We would love to have more good people in our little town. If you know anyone looking to buy land about 50 acres of the most beauitful place on earth we have it. Please just pass the word around for us.
Schools is about 10 minutes away and the hospital 20 minutes plus we have so much more. Well I hope you find what your looking for in Kentucky. Allways be safe where ever you move to. One more thing our neighbor who is the county judge has lots of rental houses.

LOW crime rate: we gotcha taken care of! Kentucky has one of the lowest, if not the lowest, crime rate of any of the southeastern states.
Cold weather doesn't bother you? Good, because our weather can not just get cold, but it can be extremely inconsistent. You'll have to get used to inconsistent weather. Just in the last 30-40 days, we've had ice, snow, t-storms, rain, flooding, flash flooding, 60-degree weather, 0-degree weather, clear days, gloomy days... We run the gamut here in the Commonwealth. The sun shines here more than in much of the upper midwest or northwest, but it shines even more in the true Southern states.
I would suggest renting. Get a feel for Kentucky, see if you like it. If you do, you're welcome to stay. If not, somebody will want to take your place I'm sure. My eyes did enlarge when you said you'd like to rent for less than $2,000/mo. Where do you live? UES, Chelsea, Bel-Air, Cambridge, SF? You can't even find an expensive, luxury apartment here for over $1500/mo., I believe. "Expensive" by Kentucky standards runs $750-800/mo.
You're right, most of Kentucky is beautiful. Clean air and water are very common here (Jefferson and Oldham Counties--the Louisville area--have the state's worst air quality, but you don't hear people complain about it much except for the 8-15 ozone alert days every year. I will say, the cleanest (best treated) water is not always found in rural areas, and our metropolitan counties generally have the best-tasting and least "chemical tasting" water in the state.
Just out of curiosity, carolmora, where might you be moving here from? Are there any specific towns or regions in the state you're interested in?
