Just my 5 cents!!

Kentucky has a decent Bluegrass music scene but the best pickers initially are kinda clannish in little groups of folks that have played together 4-ever. Unless you get invited or know some of them or meet them and get to know them, it's hard to get into their circles. Luckily I don't have that problem cause I know a bunch of them, as does my fam. Once you do get to know them....get ready for some of the best pickin in the world!

During the winter, the Bluegrass scene is dead in Ky save for a few jamz, festivals head south for warmer weather.

Never ever heard of a "hot-brown" until I joined this forum, I think it's a Louisville thing.

Too much focus on Bourbon also in my opinion, although, I've read that it's a booming ind in Ky as of late....and it IS a Kentucky tradition...so it's still cool

Cream Candy?

Believe it or not, 2 of the biggest Moonshine producing states in the world are Indiana and Illinois..been told by many folks that they make more shine up there than in Kentucky.

Whatever they are calling "Burgoo" on that plate....that is most DEF not Burgoo LOL!

My mom got asked if she worse shoes on a visit to Northern Illinois as a girl. They told her they had heard that down in Ky folks don't wear shoes and they laughed at my mom and made fun of her for her accent. It really tramautized her and she still recalls that event to this day. Such ignorance!

Either way I agreed with alot....what a fun post...thanks!

This list made me homesick - and I'm right here in the Heart of the Bluegrass.

Thanks for passing this along, CCL...

I was raised and born in western Kentucky and while its been a while since I lived there.....most of the names on the list I have never heard of. But the western part of the state was always a bit different than the bluegrass part.

Great list! Since being here, I've made it a point to try the Hot Brown when I see it on any menu!! There seems to be lots of different spins on the recipe!!
