Okay guys sorru about that last pix I was tring to see which code works. But here are some pix that I got on my way to my old stomping grounds in Irvine. Would have got more but i was to busy eating food from our local favorite the burger barn lol
Not necessarily a photo, but not really worthy of it's own thread.. Last summer I took a video of what the drive down my "holler" is like... It starts right at the turn off from the main road and stops just a little bit before my property line.
I've had this little hobby site for a couple of years. Basically I just drive around rural Kentucky and snap photos of "small towns". I've downloaded maps from the Kentucky Atlas Gazetteer website and found on the map little towns that likely don't even exist anymore. They are known as hamlets. For example, I live in the hamlet called Sparrow. Nothing is there anymore except for an old burned down house, our house and lots of fields. What used to be there was a stable, weigh station, hotel, and gas station.
I enjoy the drive, the search, and a lot of the discovery. Some of these old buildings, such as an old blacksmith shop down the road from my house, still stand and serve as homes to nature's fauna and flora.
Anyway, the point of my post, I can't get to all 120 counties. I was going to do one weekend a month, but that would still take me ten years. I'm not taking photos of towns with post offices. Those towns aren't what the site is about. The site is about towns that almost were. Most are named after the families that moved into the area generations ago (and still have family there). Sometimes there is nothing but a road sign or a barn. Sometimes there is a church or a small mom and pop shop.
If you can help me with this, please feel free to PM me here or use the contact form on my site. I could really use some help filling in the site. If I can get enough folks with interest, I'll add a forum so we can keep in touch.

Censusdata, you seem to find the cutest towns. I love all the historical stuff you've posted.
I'm thinking you must darn near be an expert on the subject so I'm just gonna ask... Do you know of a neat town near Evansville, or Tell City Indiana? We have family there and have thought about moving somewhere in the area but neither of those places are really appealing enough. I'm thinking by all the pictures you've shared, you might know. We don't care which state, just a neat place with character.

I certainly don't consider myself an expert, when question are asked about places I am familiar with I give my opinion - most things are in the eye of the beholder since people have very different tastes about what makes a place great to live in or visit.
I have only been through the Tell City area when traveling along IN 37 to Owensboro. Based on what I've seen on Google Street View Cloverport KY is the nicest little town in the area. There seems to be a lot of really nice older homes along Main Street with a nice looking "Main Street" area just west of Clover Creek (not sure if storefronts are abandoned or not but the architecture is nice)

I used to be a commercial photographer, so I love to take pics on the countryside. Now I dabble in cattle, real estate and do some BBQ catering - but I still love photography.
