God is moving us to ky... need info
Hello! We are a christian family of 6 that currently live in Jacksonville, fl. We suddenly feel the calling from God to move to Ky. We are originally from Indiana. We would be closer to family, but otherwise have no knowledge of anything Ky. We are looking at se and e ky. From between Lexington and Berea. We have found some interesting properties online in berea, richmond, irvine, lancaster, lawrenceburg. Of those cities, which is the best to raise a family in? WE are wanting 2 or more acres for the kids and possible equine potential. But I want to be in a place that is safe for my kids. I homeschool so school systems do not matter. We are also looking for a good church, baptist. The Lord has allowed circumstances for my husband to work from home in a virtual office, but I don't know how long that will hold up. So withing commuting distance from Lex. or Richmond. To be honest, I am pulled toward the berea/irvine area. Could someone give me some information on those areas? I know this sounds crazy. But we do absolutely feel this is what we are called to do. It's unbelieveably terrifying and exciting all at the same time! Any info you can give on what area is best to raise kids i would certainly appreaciate. We have 4 kids, 10, , 3, and 1. Thanks

Madison County is the most suburban and fastest growing of the counties you mentioned. There are about 80,000 people living there now. Garrard County is more rural in nature. I would avoid Estill County (lots of poverty) but Madison or Garrard are both fine.

As far as religious denominations go, you wont find another area of USA with more independent clergy than Eastern Kentucky. Many unaffiliated churches and ministries there operating at strictly the local level.

Try Somerset
Somerset is a great town to raise a family. I grew up there and would still be there if my x-husband hadn't moved us to Arizona. My grown daughters have homes in Arizona now and so I retired in the mountains so I can have 4 seasons like back home. First Baptist Church in Somerset is a spiritually strong church and has a lot of good influence in the community. The people in the community strongly support their schools and there is lots of open land for horse peoperty or gardening. We had 10 acres in the country that I grew up on. Also still have niece and family and sister-in-law living there in Somerset. Has Lake Cunberland which is good for fishing and water sports and Burnside (10 miles from Somerset) has yummy catfish meals (all you can eat) on Fridays! I would recommend you check it out. They also have Large hospital and regional mental health facility that employes lots of people.

P.S. on Somerset
Somerset is also not that far from Richmond, Berea and Lexington where the University of Kentucky is!

We've just moved to Lexington and also are homeschooling. We love the city and there are several excellent coops for homeschoolers as well. Berea is a beautiful place that I've visited, but so many of the areas in and around Lexington are lovely.
