Default Moderate Risk of Severe Weather for Ohio Valley on 2-4

From the national weather service in Louisville:

...STRONG STORM SYSTEM TO BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF SEVERE WEATHER TO THE REGION TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING...

T THIS TIME...THIS STORM SYSTEM LOOKS VERY SIMILAR TO THE ONE THAT AFFECTED THE AREA LAST TUESDAY. WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS ARE THE MAIN SEVERE WEATHER THREAT. HOWEVER... SOME ISOLATED TORNADOES COULD BE EMBEDDED WITHIN THE SQUALL LINE.

NOW IS TIME TO REVIEW YOUR SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY PLANS WITH YOUR FAMILY AND CO WORKERS. KNOW HOW TO GET THE LATEST SEVERE WEATHER WARNING INFORMATION AND KNOW WHAT TO DO IF A WARNING IS ISSUED FOR YOUR COUNTY.

in Paducah:

..THE POTENTIAL ALSO
EXISTS FOR A FEW LONG TRACK TORNADOES ALONG OR AHEAD OF THE SQUALL
LINE.

OMG I have been really thinking about Paducah, and now to read that!!! "Long track tornados," that does NOT sound good! I finally got over my fear of crime, only to be reminded of my terror of tornados!!!

How do ppl stand the threat of tornados!!!???

I believe it's not until 2-5 according to accuweather.com

I just replaced roof shingles on a house today and no this ... guess I'll be going back to replace them again.

You just do, nothing you can do to stop them. Keep an eye out and get out of the way if they are coming at you. Thankfully the really big one like they get in the plains states are not that common here.

Tornados: I was in Georgetown Texas when on May 27th that giant tornado just ripped up Jarrell and they never did find many people and animals. The mammatas clouds that day were horrifying, there was a tail hanging down over the house but it didn't touch down. It freaked me so bad I put my house up for sale THE NEXT DAY. They don't have cellars there, they had no warning sirens, there was no safe place, just tails hanging down!!!

As to crime: I've lived in all sorts of places from DC on up and down (I think it only goes up from D.C.). It's a TOTAL HASSLE to live around crime. I hate ppl in my business and criminals get in your business! They take your things or break your things or hurt your things! It's crazy!

Davart do you happen to know what "long line" tornados or "long-track" tornados are? Does it mean they are very tall or does it mean they make straight lines on the ground? They were predicted for Paducah, I saw it in the post censusdata put up earlier!!!

The weather service said they were POSSIBLE. A long track tornado is one that stays on the ground continuously for several miles, or in the plains states maybe 50+ miles.

Kentucky is one of the most 'tornado safe' states there is.

Here's an early morning update:

Lou NWS

WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS ARE THE MAIN SEVERE WEATHER THREAT.
HOWEVER...GIVEN THE STRONG WIND FIELDS...THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY
OF TORNADOES AS WELL. THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS INDICATED
THAT HERE IS A RISK OF STRONG TORNADOES GENERALLY ALONG AND WEST
OF INTERSTATE 65.
Pad NWS

THERE IS A MODERATE RISK THAT SOME OF THE STORMS MAY
BECOME SEVERE. DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL ARE THE PRIMARY
CONCERNS WITH ANY SEVERE STORMS...BUT TORNADIC STORMS CAPABLE OF
PRODUCING LONG TRACK TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.Special Weather Statements - NOAA's National Weather Service

Right now it seems to be tracking north of us along the river, the BIG system which is over by Kansas City also seems to be taking a Northerly track.
AccuWeather.com - Weather Radar - Local, State, Regional & National (http://www.accuweather.com/radar-large.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&site=KY_& type=SIR&anim=1&level=state&large=1 - broken link)

Also while we have a moderate risk in the western end of the state, it seems Arkansas is the place you DON'T want to be.

Even though Texas is colored on the map as having tons of tornados, it really depends on WHERE in Texas you are. Where I am, being in a "basin," we get no tornados, yet just up the road an hour away is a real risk of them and the place where lots of storm-chasers congregate. After Georgetown/Jarrell, I swore off living where they are likely.

I heard of a place in Missouri that is likewise in a "dip" and safe from them (relatively speaking).

I am wondering if the EAST side of Paducah is safer than the west? (Fingers crossed, b/c Paducah just seems perfect.) Anyone hazard a guess?

& Thx for the information of what a Long Track tornado was.
