To be quite honest, you expect a yankee from Michigan, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, or Indiana to say "pop" rather than a person from a regionally-self-acclaimed Southern region. Sorry, but it's the truth! TRUE Southerners don't say "pop," at least.

West of KY 55 or KY 555, generally, people call a soft drink a "coke." East of US 127, it's "pop." Frankly, "pop" annoys me. When around me, call it "coke," or even "soda," "soft drink," or "carbonated beverage," but pleeeease not "pop."

When my husband and I went on the 127 yard sale and people has "pops" for sale, it REALLY threw me off! I wasn't expecting that at all.

My family all calls it pop. I think it's one of those bad habits we got from generations of people going to work in Cincinnati - we also eat our chili with spaghetti

I notice that you are writing this from Miami, Florida.

Kentucky is not midwestern at all. It is a Southern state of Southern people and Southern traditions, manners, and sentiments. It isn't in the midwest, and has no particular midwestern sensibilities or traditions.

Some people from the Midwest do undoubtedly move to Kentucky, and they stand out, just as southerners stand out when they move to the midwest.

I couldn't agree more. I don't know about trying to peg down the geography of it all but I don't think I have ever heard anyone call coke "pop"....that would drive me crazy to hear. Can I have a "pop"? To each their own but it sounds unusual. But then again so does calling a subway the tube or a waterfountain the bubbler like they do in the U.K. So who am I to judge. Would you like some sweet tea?

I'm from northern Kentucky and can't recall a time in my life when I heard it referred to as pop. I don't know where you are getting that from. I've never been to a resteraunt or heard that term from anyone regarding a soft drink. Would you like some sweet tea?
