Talked to family and friends in Morganfield this morning. Pretty iced up there! But they say it's not as bad as last week.

It looked really bad here (L'ville) last night, but the 'warm' rain has melted most of the ice now.

I was in Lexington during the 2003 Ice Storm - it is one of the scariest weather events I've been in . A huge branch fell on our power line, dragging it halfway to the ground, but the power stayed on. You could hear trees and branches falling all night long.

It wasn't as bad as we all thought it was going to be. My school let out at 11 and I went to UK for an independent study and had to leave at 2. This was nothing compared to 2003 or when I was in Hurricane Isabel in the North Carolina Outer Banks.

Luckily most of far south western KY avoided it, we were right on the line between ice and rain and only got about 1/4" of ice then it warmed to just above freezing and rained about 2 inches. After the ice storm of '93 I could care less if I ever saw a ice storm again.

This ice storm presented some challenges. I have a friend who fractured her ankle this morning after falling. It doesn't come close to the 2003 ice storm though. That was the freakiest thing I've ever seen in my 45 years of life. It was like a war had occured overnight with the damage - and everything covered in those deep layers of ice was simply eerie.
