What can you say about Frankfort, KY?
What can you say about Frankfort, KY, good and bad?
Where do you hang out and what type of activities can you find there?
Where is a good place to go for lunch? Dinner?
Are there any good Thai or Japanese restaurants that you know of?
I would appreciate your input on anything you can say about Frankfort, KY. There's only so much one can gather form reading about a place. Personal insight is much better!
Thank you.

I completely disagree tomocox. Those of us who live here are used to the flow of things when the legislature is in session. We are a very friendly town and welcome the addition of people during this time of year. I rarely hear anybody complain about the changes we experience at this time.
We have a lot of different restaurants available for this size town. There are local places we enjoy like Rick's White Light Diner. It's a very small place but has very good food. We also have Jim's Seafood Restaurant which is right on the river. It's an enjoyable place to go and the food is good. For lunch we enjoy Adelia's Bakery and Café. They have several specials each day for lunch and are also open for supper. They offer panini sandwiches, hot plate lunches, specialty sandwiches, etc...
There are four Japanese restaurants and one Thai restaurant. I haven't eaten at the Thai restaurant but the Japanese restaurants are decent but not great IMO. I've had better Japanese food in Lexington and Louisville.
They recently opened up a Bombay Brazier but we haven't eaten there yet. We also have several of the chain restaurants like O'Charley's, Chili's, Applebees, Longhorn Steakhouse, Johnny Carinos...
We have a couple of home cooking restaurants which are good. Marshall's Restaurant has very good food and is downtown. The Forks at Elkhorn and The Market Café East are also good home cooking.
There are two tea rooms which have very good food. Miss Ramey's and The Gift Box. They both have very nice sandwiches and the desserts are to die for! lol
There are several Mexican restaurants but since I don't eat that kind of food, I have no idea about them. Spicy food isn't my friend, lol
Since our children are now grown and on their own I haven't kept up with places which offer activities for children. There is a bowling alley and a skating rink plus we have several cinemas.
We have many friends and family here. People are very friendly in Frankfort. I love living here for so many reasons. Friends are easy to make, it's a small town which I've always preferred to a large one and it isn't surprising to see people reaching out a helping hand to a stranger. I've always been a very upbeat person and I try to center my life on the positive things. I don't wear rose-colored glasses so I do know about the negative aspects of any area but overall, I think Frankfort is a very nice example of small town America.

My sincere regards. There was no intention to disparage Frankfort. It was entirely a tongue-in-cheek comment solely on the legislature. I like Frankfort too.

My two favorite restaurants are Aranda's mexican and Gibby's downtown. The Thai restaurant is Thai Smile, I've never eaten there either. Isn't there a new Japanese place in that little strip mall in front of Home Depot? I would have to agree that Lexington and Louisville would have better Japanese food.

I ate at Gibby's in January and thought it was great for casual eating. Good food. Glad to hear the Forks of Elkhorn is still going as well. Jim's has also been good every time I've been there.
Franklin County is just beautiful most of the time. Frankfort seems to be growing rather intelligently, with few strip malls and fast food venues compared to many other cities. Housing seems very affordable, with a good variety of eras and styles available. Utilities in the Kentucky Utilities areas are very inexpensive compared to anywhere.
As far as negatives, can't give you anything---but I'm just in and out of there on a fairly infrequent basis. Not many of Franfort's youngsters seem to post, so we don't have much of anything from their perspective.

Personally, Frankfort is one of my favorite places in KY. The terrain there is very hilly and there are many great older neighborhoods, it feels like a mini Pittsburgh or Cincinnati. It also has a nice park system, with a set of trails crossing the KY River and Benson Creek and then going up to Fort Hill Civil War battlesite.

I'm sorry I neglected to mention Gibby's. They do have good food. It's a very popular place during lunch time. I also should have mentioned Buddy's Pizza which is a couple of doors down from Gibby's. Buddy used to be a chef in L.A. and decided to come home and open up his own place. The food is very good and we really enjoy the pizza!
Frankfort is a lovely town with so many kind-hearted people. I had two dozen people come to my home from all over the U.S. about five years ago and they couldn't believe how beautiful this area is both in geography and the people. It made me proud to hear so many positive comments on their experiences during their stay.
I agree with nalabama in regard to Frankfort not growing at a rapid rate. The city commission and county magistrates are making a good effort in keeping that in check. Sometimes it gets difficult when you have two government entities controlling one area. However, they do pretty good most of the time, lol
One other thing I wanted to mention was about the utilities. Most of Franklin County is supported by the Frankfort Electric and Water Plant Board. They supply electricity, water, cable television, internet and phone service. They are one of the few utilities left in the state not owned by a large corporation. That's not from lack of trying. There have been many of the large conglomerates who have tried to purchase either one portion or all of the Plant Board. Fortunately for us, they have turned them all down! The prices are very reasonable compaired to a lot of other utilities.
If anybody is interested in seeing some pictures of this area they can always go to Gene Burch website. He's a local dentist who is also a photographer. He has a lot of his past calendars on his website which have many pictures of Frankfort and Central Kentucky. Just Google his name and you'll find it.
