Looking for small town to move to....seems like everyone is (Lexington: housing, rent)

I currently live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama....yep I know...home of the Crimson Tide...I am wanting to move to a small town that doesnt have a college lol...am tired of College students partying all the time...I want a nice peaceful area, I have 3 dogs, am in my 40s and will be working at home over the internet, so I would like a good area with good dependable internet...dont want to live in the town proper, would like some woods around ...just peace and quiet. Have a 50 something hubby and my 26 year old daughter will be with us for about 6 months or so ... till she finds where she wants to live more permanantly ....any help would be appreciated....

Hubby is disabled and on Social Security Disablity and is still mobile but we wont be hiking ....he likes to fish...target practice and such.

Oh ... I am definitly wanting some where in Ky....His son lives in Pa...want to be close but not too close ....

Anywhere in and around Lexington and Louisville will be swamped with college sports, but then again, these cities are much larger than Tuscaloosa. If you're dying for a small, college free town, near Louisville, Lexington, or Cincinnati, take a look at Bardstown, Mt. Sterling, Union/ Florence, Williamstown/ Dry Ridge, Shelbyville, or LaGrange (Oldham County). These are small towns that are within 45 minutes of a larger city and should have good internet coverage.

I would look at Carrollton/Carroll County Kentucky. It is along I-71 about 1/2 way between Louisville and Cincinnati. Right now there are some excellent bargains on nice homes in the area. Carrollton is a beautiful rivertown (but never in the river) and offers easy access to many good fishing holes.

If you are going to PA then I'd agree eastern, north east KY would be best.

Thanks so much for the info...Glenn seems to want to move to the western part of Ky...we are going to come up that way in the next week or so and start looking for somewhere to move by the end of the month...I will be researching all of these places and I would like to thank you for your ideas....

I'd consider Hopkinsville as well. We are very close to several great fishing spots, a small town with no residential University, an active industrial park with employment opportunities, close to several other major communities, and currently have a strong housing inventory with many choices in our county....best of luck in your search!

Good luck on your search! I have fond memories of Tuscaloosa, I am an alumni.
The wife and I intend to retire in Kentucky too, we have some land on the green river in the south central part of the state. Just look around and take your time. I'm sure you will find just what you're looking for!

Glad to finally hear somebody mention western Kentucky. There is a part of Kentucky past Owensboro and Bowling Green! lol So far I've lived in Graves (Mayfield), Union (Morganfield), Henderson (Henderson), and Trigg (Cadiz) counties. All of them a great places to settle down. If your dogs are outside dogs and bark any, you might want to steer clear of Henderson. They have a no barking ordinance. That didn't go too good with hunters with dogs!
I have made a few trips to Pennsylvania from western Ky. If you settle in the Hopkinsville/Cadiz area you can have 4 lane all the way to Pa. We've been to Scranton and also to Indiana, Pa, just east of Pittsburgh. Doesn't matter what part of Kentucky you decide on, you'll find friendly people.
