I have several jobs, but for one of them I travel ALL over the state, from Paducah to Pikeville and everything between. I do live in Lexington, but I must agree with Sandman. Louisville to me is more mid-western feel. I understand that it was part of the south stated in all the maps above, but things change. I do feel that Louisville has a dirty feel to it, although east end and propect are nice, but it's like they are in a whole different world compared to the main parts of Louisville. Also, Louisville is very liberal to me, which doesn't scream south. And Churchill Downs...yuck...I would rather spend a day at K-Land anytime. I agree... I don't like to travel thru that mess to get to the track, it's just not a good experience and I hate it that all of the visitors that come to derby have to see that on their way. Anyway, my vote is for Lexington, although I do think Bowling Green, Owensboro, and Elizabethtown are also very nice.

Louisville is not very liberal OR dirty. I have to agree that Churchill Downs could be done up nicer but other than that, I disagree.

I do agree with Stephanie that Louisville is Midwestern.

But--believe it or not--we actually can agree on something, Missy: Louisville is indeed not very liberal or dirty. On the other hand, it's not really a conservative town; it's a very middle-of-the-road city in terms of its politics and the city, first ring burbs, and outer burbs in Jefferson Co. all tend to provide an overall political balance. Parts of the west and southwest end have become dirty, but at least 65% of Jefferson Co. is actually clean.

Also, Churchill Downs is not the nicest race track on earth, but hey, it's historic and in an old neighborhood.

JCM you think 95% of the state is Midwestern but ok. But yes, we do finally agree on something!

No one is saying that louisville is midwestern, just that it has that vibe to it. I don't understand why people get offended by that. People can't honestly or objectively go to lexington and then louisville and say they have the same feel to them...perhaps its just the size of the louisville...but then again atlanta is huge so that's not it. It is just the way it seems to be. Louisville has that midwestern rivertown vibe...I'm originally from northern kentucky and don't get insulted when people say the same thing about that area. They don't dispute its a southern state but even an area in the south can have a different vibe or feel to it. I really like louisville, it has great parks and nice suburbs but when compared to a place like lexington it is just different. I would vote Lexington, then NKY, then Louisville as far as where to live.

I believe they are saying that. I have also heard it said that atlanta isn't southern either so I guess it just depends on perspective. Maybe it shouldn't aggrivate me but it does and I am sorry for that .

missy...maybe I need to get your perspective...why is louisville southern in your opinion. I am not talking about geography here because as I mentioned that is not really the dispute in this thread...why do you think louisville is southern or has that southern feel to it. I would like to think that northen kentucky has that but I am objective enough to realize that it probably doesn't seem like that to others. What defines southern in your mind for louisville and why does it matter so much to you?

The Taylor Blvd area (including Churchill Downs) is the only part of Louisville that is truly dirty or rundown. Even 90% of the West End is very clean and beautiful. Once you get south of Rockford Lane/ Bluegrass Ave the South End is also very nice.

One of my favorite things about Louisville is all the tree-lined parkways and country roads in the heart of the city.

Kenwood Drive

Southern Parkway

St Anthony Church Road

We'll my views are just my opinion, thats all. I apologize if anyone took offense. I am not one that gets upset when someone says things I don't agree with, I tend to just let it roll off my shoulders. BUT with that said, I don't like to hurt peoples feelings either.

My reasons for thinking Louisville has a dirty feel to it are things like Dixie Hwy, Preston Hwy, almost all of downtown with the exception of 4th street (which I do like to visit from time to time), the rusty bridges over the water (I know the just painted one of them), the dirty river water, and just overall a lack of landscaping and well kept areas. And of course, this one is going to make someone mad, but a lot of the people I see are just a mess, except for the educated ones I see out in Cherokee park (who are greatly liberal-which I am not)..... and Prospect (east end is nice).

When I was in undergrad at UK, it was very apparent who the girls and guys were from Louisville. A lot of the girls were overly trendy and always willing to take a more free approach with things like spring break and the guys would even comment about O' I bet she is from Louisville...

Yes, they sterotype, but SERIOUSLY, who doesn't?? I am SHOCKED that Obama won Fayette County. I am NOT shocked about him having a win in Louisville. He is the most Liberal Senator we have ever had, his voting record shows that.

I have many friends in Louisville, there are great people everywhere! Some people obviously LOVE IT. It just absolutely is not for me, as I am sure that Lexington is just absolutely isn't for others... and that's ok with me, It doesn't hurt my feelings that anyone would feel like that.

Here's a toast***

To Each Their Own**Do What Makes YOU Happy** I hope everyone has a great day no matter where you are!!!!!!
