NO, there are already good roads connecting Eastern KY with other areas. I-66 would actually run very near the Daniel Boone Parkway and a 4 lane KY 80.

The millions spent on researching this worthless project could have been spent on tax incentives to bring in new jobs to the area

Nothing will change in this region until the mindset of the region changes....they have to want change or it will never get any better. That's how it is because that is how it has always been doesn't fly with progression.

That may be true but it seems that is the case for a greater number of places in eastern kentucky than other regions of the state. Stereotypes are often overdone and wrongly used but when they are broken down they usually do evolve from some bit of reality. Quite a few of the poorest counties in the country come from Eastern Kentucky so I think the "problems" as you put it exist. Why do you think Eastern Kentucky has such an image problem. How would you make it better? Would you like some sweet tea?

People like you is why Eastern Kentucky has an image problem.... What is your deal? Is your hobby to down and bash the region constantly? What interest is it of yours anyway? Do you live here? Not being smart, just general wondering why you are so down on the area is all. From my experience alot of the image problem Eastern Kentucky has is people who have moved away to the city for a few years, get the big head and are all like oh my god those poor people back in eastern kentucky blahblahblah.... my family is the worst of these types of people in fact. Like I said in other posts I am not a native, but my family has deep roots in Harlan and Perry County and I have alot of faith in and love for the area. We arent as bad off as many would like to think.

My hobby is not to down and bash the region constantly as this is the only thread that I have even mentioned it. I do not live there but am down in that area quite a bit. I am interested in this because I am sick of people asking me where I am from and when I say kentucky the next thing out of their mouths being are you married to your sister or are you a hillbilly or are those real teeth. The first thing people think of isn't churchill downs, bourbon, any of the great things about this state...its all the "hillbillies" and dirt poor third world conditions that all of Kentucky must have. So in that way it interests me. I am sick of the stereotype of this state and unfortunately that comes for the most part from eastern kentucky be it entirely true or not. So there you have it. You think things are great and tell me not to worry about eastern kentucky but you yourself said the worst people are the ones from that area that leave and then get a big head...(they get it because they realize how bad it really is where they come from and see another side of things.) Just because people don't agree with your perspective doesn't mean they are bashing you. I wish it wasn't so impoverished in eastern kentucky...sorry for my big arrogant head. You are fine with the status quo and so were your parents and theirs before and that is why things aren't changing. No place is perfect just as you said but when one place keeps getting called out for certain things maybe there actually is something to it and it isn't people just being big headed or snobs. Would you like some sweet tea?

Sorry if anyone thought i was bashing the area or looking down on it. i was just wanting to know what the government is doing to counteract the problem.
