Default area around somerset, ky

I am exploring this area as a possible retirement area. My needs are as follows: good library, inexpensive golf. active car club, "home cookin'" cafe, good catfish place, and housing with trees.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Good morning! I am pretty familiar with the Somerset/Pulaski area. My hubby and I have a small cabin on the lake, and spend alot of time in the area. There are several smaller communities around Somerset, including our favorite, Tatesville. This is a small community, complete with "Ginny's Diner", lots of lakefront, and a few small stores. It is just minutes from Somerset, heading south. In the summer months the city shuts down once a month, and has a street party that includes live music, food, car shows, and free entertainment. Somerset's "Summer Night Cruisers" provides most of the cars. Another nice town is Jamestown, which is not too far from Somerset, and still on the water. It is a more historic area, but still modern enough to keep you busy. Hope this helps, and w/b if you need more info about the area! ;0)

Thanks for the reply. The towns you mentioned definately caught my attention. I'll get right on the research.
I was raised in smalltown MO, spent the rest of my adulthood teaching in CA and Guam. I'm more than ready for relaxation.

Also check out Science Hill, and Nancy. These are both convenient to Somerset. If you are hunting something a little "farther out", I would recommend Mt. Vernon, which is a small town right outside Pulaski County. Land is VERY affordable there. A close friend of mine just sold a 110 acre farm for $110,000 that had a really nice little house on it, barns, ponds, wagons, everything needed to farm with. I am actually looking at a house in Somerset myself which is 3 br., 1 bath, large lot-looks like a little doll house- for $39,000, only about 5 minutes from the lake. You can also search for the Pulaski Board of Realtors, and see what realtors are in the area.
It sounds like you have more than earned a little relaxation! Just a tip, though, be ready to fish till ya drop, and be prepared to boat shop! :0)

Thanks again, I spent quite a while on the Ford website. Do you REALLY get 5" of snow yearly? I realize I shouldn't even mention this after looking at Colorado but I've been totally away from true cold since 1961 and at my age I wonder about adapting.

Question Snow? Where?

Just kidding! As for the "normal" amount of snow, the statistics say 5" is the norm in this area. So far this winter, we have had one dusting, and one small skiff of ice that lasted about 4 hours. I believe old man winter forgot where we are! I honestly feel that the large snow we got a few years ago (18" in my front yard!) skewed the statistics.

However, I miss the snow! We usually take our kids sledding at least once every winter. From the looks of it, we won't be going this year! Plus. if we don't get some cold weather soon, we are going to be infested with bugs and critters this year. My husband and son went deer hunting in Pulaski just a couple of weeks ago. My son had 5 ticks on him, and my hubby had 3! This is just unheard of for January!
