Looking to move to Kentucky need a little help
I am looking to move to Kentucky in the next year or two from California. I have just started researching the state and would like a little help with narrowing down a few locations. I would like to live in a suburb close to a town that I could work in. I am in the construction field with my main work being underground utilities and dirt work. I really like Corbin but the county seems a little to small for my kind of work.
I am looking to buy a house with at least 6 bedroom and 3 baths for around $250,000 to $350,000. Which I think is doable from what I've seen. I am looking for low crime and good schools. Any info on towns, counties, or regions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Erik

You need to concentrate your search within the Louisville and Lexington areas. They are the largest cities in the state, and have the greatest opportunities.
Watch the economy, stats, housing starts, etc, and you will have greater knowledge of where you need to be.
Both cities offer what you are looking for, and both are growing - however the economy has slowed down, especially the housing market.
Keep an eye on http://www.louisvilleky.gov/ - and http://www.lfucg.com/ (Lexington). You will get the most up to date info there.
Good luck and we will be happy to have you!

What have you seen about Nicholasville? I am looking at the Lexington area and surrounding towns myself, but haven't heard much about Nicholasville.

Hey there....
We are also looking to move. I'm not sure where yet, we've been looking. We are in Michigan right now. We are also in the construction business, mainly concrete and foundation work. I definately think things in the South are better.
Things here in Michigan are really bad right now. We have hardly worked this year.

Dreaming of Kenucky
I have been searching online for over 2 years in regards to Kentucky. Collecting all the stats from county to county, researching tornado stats, crime rates, comparing school scores, college tuition, outdoor adventure, Dry counties verses Wet counties, cost of living, taxes etc, etc,. We finally travelled to Kentucky, starting in Lexington, driving and camping all the way through the national parks and flew out of Nashville Tennesee. I was in heaven. Everywhere I went, I could call it home. The people were incredible. We are Photographers so we were constantly stopping the car to take in the beauty. I am back home now(completely homesick for Kentucky) and am narrowing my search to Murray Kentucky.Calloway County. Great schools. Score of 10. Murray State University, one of the top public colleges in the nation, Extremely low crime rate. Low property taxes, Close to Land between the Lakes. We did not make it to Murray, so if anyone can give me some first hand info, I would appreciate it. Right outside Lexington was also awesome. Absolutely gorgeous and the people were wonderful. I am counting the days when I can get out of California.

I have researched my info about Nicholasville on this forum via the search function and searches on Google and yahoo. Also I have gone to city and county web site and requested relocation info. I haven't got any info yet but I look forward to see what they send me.

I currently live in Louisville and love it. It is growing like a weed and there are tons of houses and businesses going up. Bowling Green is also a great choice. I lived there for 5 years while in college. I visit from time to time and that city has really grown. It is growing very, very fast. It is a 45-50 minute trip from Bowling Green to Nashville, TN. Bowling Green has great schools and is pretty darn safe. Check it out.

Hey everyone,
I was born in Lexington and grew up around Nicholasville all through my teenage years and through college at UK. I no longer live in Nicholasville/Lexington area, but I visit quite often and, since I grew up there, I can probably tell you most anything you want to know about the area. Just ask me some specific questions and I'll try to help.
Just as a general note, the Lexington area seems to be growing in a north/south kind of way, more specifically, the growth and addition of homes, schools, and retail, etc. seems to be growing north of Lexington in Scott County and south in the Jessamine County/Nicholasville area. East and West of town still retains much of the "Bluegrass" horse country atmosphere. But, yeah, central Ky. and Lexington have seen quite a bit of growth lately.
Just ask me if you want more info about schools, church, University of Kentucky, general impressions of the people, etc......
