Wow, you are going the scenic route. Sounds like fun though. I love Moonlight.

I grew up in Henderson (Zion actually) and I can say that I have always thought Moonlite was extremely highly over rated. I ate there earlier this year (friend wanted to go) for the first time in a long, long time and it was just as average now as it was then. I do not understand the fascination with the place, the food is just average and that's it.
No offense to anyone that likes it, but it's just not worth driving out of the way for IMHO. I would drive out of the way to go to Patties 1880 in Grand Rivers, you get your moneys worth there. The Brass Lantern in Aurora use to be good now it's just crap, some one new bought it and the cuts of meat are cheap and over prices, budget food across the road at Willow Pond is far, far better. Charlie's in Oak Grove use to be good haven't been there in a while so I can how there are now.

I used to work a lot in the Owensboro area and I ate lunch there sometime. I love their food. My husband likes mutton and no one that I know of here in Bowling Green sells it. We go if we are in the area. What is the other barbeque place in Owensboro that everyone says is better now?

Davart, next time you're in that area check out the Bluegrass in Eddyville, on the corner across from McDonald's. We've had some pretty good meals there.

Digger, you wouldn't believe our LONG trip just to get through Atlanta today! I think we could have walked it quicker! lol We were even in the HOV lane! Traffic slowed to a crawl a few miles north of town on I-75 and we didn't get over 15-20 MPH until about 40 miles north of Macon! Radio said there was a minor traffic accident down that way. If a minor accident caused all that I sure don't want to see the result of a major accident! lol We also heard on the radio of a semi overturned on I-75 North of Atlanta that had both lanes shut down! Glad we're staying for a week!

OOOPs, sorry kygman! Welcome to georgia traffic (I can't wait to get out of here).
Had I thought about it I would have suggested you come down through Alabamastan, then cut east on 280 to Georgia. It may be a little longer but would probably been much faster.
I always try to avoid I-75 during holidays. Heck, it's even bad during a normal weekend!
Oh well, hope you enjoy your visit!

Hmmm, most areas in Kentucky do not have coal mines. They are mainly located in Eastern KY and there's not even many there. Only a very small percentage of the state has coal mines.

There are coal mines in the western part of the state, mainly from Henderon and Union Counties down through Hopkins and Muhlenburg. These are underground mines. What you are talking about are strip mines. Even when I lived within a few miles of a strip mine I never heard any blasting or see any soot. There may be some that do have that but I haven't seen or heard of any of them in this part of the state in a while.

Since this oil crisis, the coal mining is going to boom in Kentucky again. I have seen many ads looking for miners. Pays very well, but the danger is so great.
