Default Lakes in Kentucky to retire to...

Hello, my name is Glenn and I'm a 55 year old RR engineer who's winding down a long career here in California. I'm looking for a nice lake to retire on, hopefully near a good town and within an hours drive of a major city. Any opinions would be appreciated.....thanks

You definitely need to check out Rough River Lake in north west Ky., and of course the Kentucky-Barkley lake area in far west Ky. Ky lake has more shoreline than all the great lakes combined!

If you want a small, friendly community you need to check out Cadiz, KY. (Trigg County) Check out http://www.barkleylake.com/
We are the "Gateway to the Lakes." We have Barkley Lake and The Land Between The Lakes. Hunting and fishing abound in our area.
Check out http://www.lbl.org/
We are a nice retirement community with one of the finest state parks (Barkley Lake State Resort Park).
Our Main Street is lined with antique stores.
We are known for our largest Country Ham Biscuit which is made each year at our Ham Festival which is held in October
We have I24 to our east which makes it easy to get to larger cities when needed. US68/KY80 runs east and west through our town and makes it easy to get to Hopkinsville (30 minutes away) to the east and Murray to our west. A little further east is Clarksville, TN and a little further west is Paducah, KY.
If I can help you with other information just let me know.

Williamsburg Ky is the ideal spot. Small friendly town of 5,000 located on Intersate 75. North is Lexington 100 miles and south is Knoxville, Tn about 65 miles. Its on the Cumberland river with several lakes nearby and awsome views of the mountains. I'm not a Ky native but its the place I moved to 6 years ago. You need to check it out on the internet as the surrounding area has too many attractions to list here.
Amything I can do to help with info let me know

Don't forget Lake Cumberland! I know right now it's down due to the leak at Wolf Creek Dam, but once it's fixed you will love it! This is some of the best Striper fishing in the world. Somerset is a small town, situated right on the lake. This is a really nice area for retirement-a very laid back lifestyle. Visit:
