Sounds to me like you're downing Mayfield. Sure it may be an "Any Small Town USA" but maybe that's what people want. Not everybody has to live in the big towns with everything going on. But I grew up in Mayfield and I'm proud of it. I've lived in other small towns around western Kentucky since then and they have Mayfield beat in the Any Small Town USA category.

Take my comments as you will. I honestly was not downing Mayfield. I just haven't noticed a difference b/t it and many other small towns across America.

Wal-Mart, McDonald's, Sonic, and Dollar General can be found practically anywhere in the mid-South. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that, that's just the way it is.

If you came to Kentucky for fast food you need to carry your butt back to Arizona!

There aren't that many apartments in Mayfield, but there are a lot of rental houses. What is your price range? Size, locations etc etc.

My Father Ralph Edward Stephenson is From Mayfield KY, as my paternal Grandparents. I have been looking at different parts of Kentucky online.
I am seriously considering relocating to Kentucky, perhaps Louisville, Lexington,
something suburban, semi rural. Mayfield came to mind. I am seeking my family
history there. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Are there any Stephenson's
in Mayfield? Stephenson Family Reunions anywhere in Kentucky? I want to travel there for the Rennaisance Fair, & Highland Games. Is the VFW & American Legion active in Mayfield? How far is the nearest Trader Joes? I am contemplating a trip out there in the Summer. I am tired of Southern California & it's earthquakes & wildfires, cost of living, this place is becoming 3rd world. Do you get Tornados there? I believe there may be quite a bit Scot Irish heritage in Kentucky. From what I have read thus far, this place appears to be a worthwhile destination. I am told Kentuckians are quite friendly.

I went to 411.com and put in the name Stephenson, and Mayfield, Ky. It came up with 10 names. You may want to check it out. I was born and raised in Mayfield and my parents still live there. as far as VFW and American Legion being active, I couldn't tell you. Come on out and visit a while!

I'm going to Mayfield tomorrow to take my dad to the doctor in Paducah. I can tell you how the gas prices are when I get back. Just noticed the gas here went up a dime to $1.66.9 overnight. Usually a little cheaper there. If you want to keep an eye on our weather every now and then, go to NOAA - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration . There on the left where it says weather.gov forecast, just put Mayfield, Ky in there. If you like humidity, you'll love it here. lol I have some family friends who were transferred with their jobs to Mayfield over the years who retired and stayed there.
