Default Do they have group homes in Kentucky for people with disabilities?

Just curious if you guys and gals have any info about group homes in kentucky for the developmentally delayed people? I work in social services and with people with disabilities. Thanks!

I do not speak with much intelligence on this subject, especially about quality; however, your answer is yes. One noted example is in Somerset. That facility has been the subject of much debate about the quality of services.

I too am seeking a place for my cousin who is being urged by his lawyer to apply for SSI. I am inquiring at Nazareth Village in Bardstown but I doubt if he'll be appropriate since he has a jail record due to DUIs.

Oakwood is on the front of today's Lexington Herald Leader. Unfortunately it's bad news yet again going on at that place.

Those facilities are not group homes but instituions. Group homes are actually staffed houses or apartments set up to allow those with disabilities to live as closely to a normal life as possible with supervision. I worked in this field right out of college and enjoyed it greatly. If you are interested in living in the Bowling Green area, contact Lifeskills, Inc., they serve 10 counties in the areas of mental illness, developmental disabilites for adults and children, substance abuse, etc.

Yes I am talking about staffed residential group homes and/or apartments. I am not talking about institutions. I am srprised they have any institutions anymore I thought the states closed them all down and then had to figure a way to house all of the clients. Do any of you guy have any names for these group homes? Sure would appreciate it as I am thinking of relocating.

Both of these companies run group homes in the area. I personally think Lifeskills does a better job of it though. As far as the institutions metioned, they are for those that are extremely severe and cannot be placed in a community based programs. Some of them sort of fall throught the cracks of the system.
