This is great news, and NONE of it would have happened without the work put in by the Lawson and Keeling families.


Cable barrier projects are scheduled for the following areas:
  • Hardin, I-65, 7.8 miles, from mile point 80.5 to 88.3 (Sonora, Glendale area)
  • Hardin, I-65, 9.4 miles, from mile point 91.1 to 100.5 (Includes Muldraugh Hill)
  • Jefferson, Ky. 841, 10.2 miles, from mile point 0 to 10.2 (Gene Snyder Freeway from I-65 to Dixie Highway)
  • Hart and Barren, I-65, 10.5 miles, from mile point 52.4 to 62.9 (Horse Cave area)
  • Bullitt, I-65, 6.2 miles, from mile point 109.4 to 115.6 (From KY 480 to Jefferson County line)

i think bullitt county should have gotten them well before oldham county or at least around the same time. with all the truck traffic in that area, i know it's dangerous.

I think I-71 from Henry Co to I-75 is much worse than most of I-65

I-64 from I-265 to Shelbyville could use some, but they're wanting to widen that stretch in the next few years

So are cable barriers better than the old fashioned barriers? This part of the state only uses barriers, not the cable type.

No but they are cheaper...you rarely see the old fashioned barriers in medians. Louisvilles major urban freeways (I-65, I-264), for example, all have concrete wall medians. Most major cities are like this.

There are better articles at WAVE3, FOX41, WDRB, WBKO, Courier-Journal, The News Enterprise, the Glasgow Daily News, and many more


The above mile markers were released by the transporataion department press people and most of them are in error. I was shown the actual miles and the full document. Some of the errors can be found with common sense. In Bullet Co., Ky 480 actually starts around mm 112. We will post the actual mile markers in the next few days on Barriers Now - Powered by vBulletin .

As far as giving me credit goes: give it all to My kids, Jesse Keeling's friends, the people on the web site, the company that hosted the site for free, and yourself and otheers like you. You helped supply us with data that became invaluable. My only goal was to spare other family's the grief of losing a Jesse, Myra , or Cassandra. I did get my 15 minutes (and more ) of fame, but only to reach that goal. I am extremely tired of the media even tho they helped us get this done in 3 and a half months from the time half my family was killed. I know I have to accept credit for starting this. Please give me no more than that. Thanks

I fail to understand how any of these counties qualify as Louisville xurbs.
The barriers being put in Hart and Barren counties are over 75 miles from the Jefferson county line and less than 25 to Bowling Green. The closest Hardin county barrier will be over 25 miles south of the Gene Snyder. And please don't tell the Shepherdsville residents that they are part of Louisville. I guess maybe Louisville is bigger than I thought, tho.

Get me the statistics and I'll make that area my next project.

I believe they are. Most of our research on other states, Louisville and Lexington has bourn this out. The cables flex and often save the people in the vehicle that hits them. The old fashioned concrete barrier doesn't give at all and frequently lives are lost merely from hitting them. After all they're as hard as ..........

Louisville's 51 miles of cable barriers have been hit 382 times since the first miles of barrier were installed in Sept. 2006 and are estimated to have prevented 299 cross-over accidents in the short time since they were installed.
And, yes, they are cheaper. The best cable barriers are about 1/4 the cost of the worst concrete type.
