Smile The right ky. Location for me ?

Divorced 52yr old male looking for the right place to live in KY.Must rent to start. Would like enough land to have small garden and a few chickens, but will take a studio or room to start. Must work! I will not have a driver license for 2 more yrs. Need to be close to work or have access to public transportation. I have a Certificate of Achievement from THE CULINARY TRAINING ACADEMEY OF LAS VEGAS NV. AS A PROFESSIONAL COOK. I also have no problem working as a basic laborer or what ever to get on my feet. I am from Danville VA. but have always wanted to give KY. a try.Weather is not a big issue I am use to four seasons. Vegas is always hot. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF VEGAS ALL TOGETHER!!!!!! Easy access to fishing is a must!
Thanks for any response.

How close do you need to be to a larger city?

I much rather live and work in a small city,(country} but,if I need to live close to a larger city in order to get transportation to work that's okay. You can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy. I am more than willing to do what I have to do. Thank you for replying. Please get back to me.

Rural/ suburban counties near Louisville I'd recommend: Bullitt & Shelby
Rural/ suburban counties near Lexington I'd recommend: Jessamine & Clark

Other small cities you might consider: Bowling Green, Somerset/ London/ Corbin, Ashland, Paducah

You'll have a hard time finding adequate public transportation in small towns/rural areas, especially if you'll be totally dependent on it. Sometimes, however, small towns with large universities have pretty good bus systems. Perhaps Bowling Green might fit the bill, but I personally have no experience with its public transportation. Hopefully someone from the town can comment on it. Otherwise, you might be limited to one of the three main metro areas in Kentucky...Louisville, Lexington, or Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati.

There is public transportation in Paducah and Henderson. Plus both of these are on the Ohio River so that will take care of the fishing bug. Plus in Henderson the Chamber of Commerce has a list of places to rent you can check out too. Plus, in smaller towns, Murray, Mayfield, Hopkinsville (and similar towns in eastern Ky), you could find a bike cheap to get around. In rainy weather maybe you could catch a ride with someone where you find a job for a few bucks gas money. Good luck!

Default Thanks

Censusdata,Kygman, and The village idiot. Thanks for the info.
I have checked a lot of them out the best I can. Louisville is properly more practical.but Murray and Henderson sound more to my likeing. My main concerns are,of course some type of a job, a way to get to it, (NO LICENSE) and low rent,a studio are something like that would be okay.Maybe something to fix up in exchange for some rent. If any one has more info about Louisville,Murray and Henderson it would be very helpful!, maybe from some one who lives in these places. My sources for checking on places other than this forum is Sperling's Best Places. If anybody knows of any other link for checking out places Please let me know.

How about Bullitt County? I bet there is a TARC that runs from there to Louisville.
