In Western Ky, I'd say Bowling Green. That's the most progressive, fast growing area in that part of the state.

No, I'll be an MD. I'm going to school at the University of Toledo. And trust me when I say I can't wait to get back to the South. Outside of Cincinatti and Columbus, Ohio is a very depressing place. Old school economies, bitter people, depressed people (because of the economy and the crappy weather), cold weather. And ugly women. :-) I'm hoping for Nashville, but would be very happy with Louisville for my residency training.

Auburn, Kentucky. It's about 10 miles from Bowling Green (Kentucky's 3rd largest city), 50 miles from Nashville TN, 60 miles from Louisville, 20 miles from Lake Malone State Park and land prices there are very reasonable. It's an agricultural type area but has good roads. Although the town itself is tiny, it's locale makes it a great place to live. Western Kentucky University is in Bowling Green. Check it out.

Russellville is close to Bowling Green, and is a nice little town. I am purchasing a home there that is historical, and just darling. The people I have gotten to know are so friendly, I can hardly wait to get there.....good luck on whatever you decide. I am sure you will be happy in Kentucky.

We will almost be neighbors! But it will still be 9-10 years before we move to Morgantown. Looking forward to when that time comes!
Keep us posted on how the move goes, IrishTiltedkilt!

NO NO NO NO NO! Madisonville is where I live and its HORRIBLE! Our mall is basically totally closing. When its all said and done, we will have Tumbleweed, the theatre, the bookstore, the dollar tree, and maybe Maurices. This town is filled with rasict, extreme republican conservatives and there is a large problem with mental health issues here. Everything is ugly and getting some decent service anywhere is impossible. They just cleaned up out limbs from the ice storm in Febuaray last week.
This is not a place you want to live for any period at all. The cops are a joke, so if you ever need help don't expect to get any. I can't stress enough how terrible things are here. Forget finding work too. The only people being hired are illegal mexicans because they can get away with paying them next to nothing. Not very many people here are college educated, which makes for a town full idiots, and NO ONE knows how to drive. The don't pay attention to any of the traffic laws. Every time I go to town I come extremely close to being hit 2-3 times.

Smartie, as far as the mall "basically closing" and just cleaning up the tree limbs, you could be talking about one of several towns around the area. Some malls are hurting while others are doing good. As far as the limb clean up, some places will be cleaning limbs for another month or so.

Western Kentucky?
Any particular reason why you chose Western Kentucky? I lived in the area for about eleven years and found that driving to the central area (Louisville and Lexington) for medical purposes, etc. became quite frequent.
Henderson is a lovely town with many wonderful people, and would be near the top of my list.

Take Smartie_Pants' advice and steer clear of Madisonville! We moved here about 4yrs ago from central Ky and have watched it progressively down hill. Don't get me wrong...the people we've met have been the best...but the traffic is horrible! I'd almost rather drive through Lexington everyday.
Also the heat and humidity are unreal. It actually rivals that of Northern Fl.(without the benefit of the ocean breeze.) Expect to spend a good portion of your summer indoors. And the winters are just as bad, think far north with no snow, brutally cold.
There really are no good restraurants...you have to go to Evansville. The only business that seem to be comming in are hotels, pharmacies and banks. Lord only knows why because no one here has much money. Also as the economy worsens, the stores, restaurants and the town as a whole have gotten dirtier.
We're at least lucky to have found a nice home with really good neighbors, but as soon as we can we'll be moving on to a more fair climate and progressive area.

You drove that far for medical? Unless you have something serious, that's a long drive considering all the good hospitals in the area. You have Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. My wife was a patient there this week and you couldn't have asked for better or more efficient help. She has a serious medical condition and has been going to Madisonville for it for over 30 years. You have two hospitals in Paducah. Then there's Hopkinsville, Mayfield, Murray, and also Henderson.
