Somerset & Monticello
I visited both of these cities and thought the locals were very helpful. I was helping my mother with our family geaneology and found a lot of interesting information about both cities. I want to send a special thank you to the ladies at the local library in Monticello for there help in directing me to the court house. I would also like to say a special thank you to the court house for directing me to the new museum that is in the heart of Monticello. The people at the museum were very helpful and the books were very useful. I took a lot of pictures while there and the Tiffany Inn in Monticello was an okay place to stay according to the front desk clerk it is owned by the locals which was so nice to hear. Thank you so much for the directions and the kindness you showed while we were searching for my great grandfather and reletives. While there we visited five cemeteries. Two that were unnamed and three that were named. The folks that live on Morris Hill Road were very helpful. There was one cemetery on Morris hill road named Hill Top Cemetery and there was another cemetery off of Morris Hill road that did not have a sign or a name anywhere on that property. We never found Green Betty cemetery or Lonely cemetery while visiting Monticello. I think that was a bit of a dissapointment for my Mother and I. But we did find a lot of other information. My great grandfather is burried at Alexander cemetery behind Rick's automotive. Not sure what street that was. The state was lacking in street signs so that made it hard to find streets and towns. I thought it was kind of different that Somerset went by street numbers rather than names. But I do gotta say that Somerset is looking pretty up to date when it comes to businesses. Keep up the good work. The Super 8 in Somerset needs help. There rooms were expensive and there fridge and microwaves don't work.
