Default a few questions about murray

Where do people in murray go to have fun? I liked how nice and quiet it was in murray but I know I would get bored after a while. I didn't notice any theaters in town and the little girl at the hotel there told me that it was a dry county up until a few years ago(so I'm guessing no bars). Do people just drive down to nashville?

Most of the partying goes on south of the Tennessee line. That was going on before Tennessee raised their drinking age up to 21 a few years back. There is a theater in Murray. Think it's down on Chestnut, past 641. The best way to find out what there is to do is get out and look. Not meaning that to be smart, but find somebody on campus to ask. If you're starting college, you can usually ask about some of that and find out more during your freshman orientation. When I was there, in the 70's (Yeah, I know. Before you were born, right? lol) my freshman O advisor, Dr. McGaughey in journalism, fixed up a map to all the bars in Tenn. and the mileage and type music in each one. For college events you can check on Murray State University on the Web . Kentucky Lake is just about 15-20 miles away if you want to do something on the water.

There are TWO bars left in Puryear, TN and only one of them does any amount of business. Puryear is dead. The bars in Murray happen to be in restaurants (per the law) and the Big Apple and Nick's and Vitello's (sp?) cater to college students.

The theatre is located on Chestnut and has 7 screens with stadium seating. Bowling at Corvette Lanes on Main. You got mini-golf on 16th street. Plenty of real golf courses. There are plenty of family-type events that go on during the summer. During school, there are tons of athletic events to go to and God knows it would be nice if the students actually showed up once in a while. The Lake was mentioned. You have community theatre and the plays that the university puts on.

You could drive to Paducah, but one bar is as good as another to me anyway. If you want action and excitement, drive to Nashville or St Louis. You can have fun here in Murray, but not excitement. Hell, drive to Metropolis, Ill and gamble some of your parents money...LOL

What's fun to you? Fun is what you make it.

Most folks (college kids) go to Paducah to party ... get a sober drive if you do, one wants to die and they are strict now on DUI's.

Nearly every surrounding town has a cinema and places to eat, there are parks, golf, bowling, etc.

Paducah is the local shopping hub and again it really depends on what your interest are as to what is fun. Fun to some is a strip club and to others it's church.

I really appreciate all the advice. Does anyone know if there is a pool hall in town? How about a public pool?

There is a public pool located in Central Park and several pools on campus. I believe Break Time Billiards is still open. It is a pool hall located about 2 miles out of Murray on 94 East. Hungry Bear restaurant has several tables as well, if I can remember correctly.

I know it's been a while since it moved from down by the bowling alley, but is the Hungry Bear as good where it is now? I used to love their silver dollar pancakes. Eating the silver dollar ones is the only time I could say I ate a dozen pancakes and not feel guilty about it! lol

The place is disgusting and I refuse to eat there. That's why I am not sure they still have pool tables anymore or not.
