Hey Kentucky guy! I am not suprised by your post since my very Irish husband has done the same. He has been here in KY for about six years. It's pretty fun to hear an Irishman say "y'all"!

That is so funny! I have been to Ireland quite a few times and loved thier accent! I can't imagine the southern accent mixed with the Irish accent. That is great and quite assuming indeed!!!

Ahhh!!! Another Filipina??? Where where!?! I was researching the demographics of a town of about 3,000 (Cadiz) and there was only 1 Filipino/a there... lol. I'm planning to move there and people keep teasing me telling me "Well, now there'll be 2 of you there!" Haha.

Yeah, I didn't say that last sentence right. Did it? LOL! What I meant to say is that is quite "humorous" indeed.

Actually, they are kind of right. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of Filipino's living in Kentucky. My wife and I live in Northern Kentucky and we only bump into Pinoy's occasionally, but not often. I believe you may find more in Louisville than in Northern Kentucky. However, there are some Filipino's over in Cincinnati. I hope that helps. Most Philipino's in the states either live in Chicago, New York, California and some in Florida. That is as much as I know. Take care and God bless!

Go to any city out side of a Marine or Navy base and you'll find plenty of them. When I was in the Marines every base I when to had a large Filipino population do to the military base there. But that might have changed since they shut down Subic Bay in '91.

Thanks, everyone. It was great to read a thread about Kentuckians where we are treated with respect. Yep, I've got the accent and am told it is quite pronounced. It's who I am. It gets the job done and that's all that matters.

OK, I have an unfortunate problem.

I unconsciously mimic accents. Not bad at it either. This happens when ever I talk to a customer anywhere in the world. I just slowly start to change my accent (well OK Californians don't have a real "accent" we just talk really fast) to fit without even noticing it. Probably goes back to all my drama classes, etc.

Now, if I do that, but make no indication that I am being disrespectful, will I catch grief over it, or just be .......?

In Texas and North Carolina, where I lived for a while, they didn't seem to notice or if they did they just ignored it.

How about Kentucky?????????
