Now, this sentence reads a little funny - but put the twang in it for the conversation in your head - the countriest (word?) twang you've ever heard!

I laughed and said 'yepper, I reckon that's alrite'.

I have seen translation sites on the net for different languages so you can get the correct spelling - can't find one for kentucky-ese. Ain's that a whoopin'?

Funny, Happy Day!!!! KimmieKY
I called your number last night, I really think your accent is cute, I love it!!!! We are kind of drab here in Minnesota, not to much fun with our drawl, some people say I sound more like I come from Iowa then Minnesota, but I guess it is because I was born in Iowa, and lived half an half of my life in each state. Now it is time for me to move on, but where????
I need some place not to cold or to hot, with little or no humidity, and little snow if any. Good luck, huh!!!!!!!

Yorkie - I went to bed early last night - hope you saw my message to you ...

AND - I stil have to say Florida is it for me! Nothing like 80 degrees and sunshine on the beach in January. Heck- 80 degrees and not on the beach - just in Sebring with Mom and Daddy will suit me fine!

Kimmieky....This is Joe from Florida. It's funny when you mention Sebring, because you wouldn't get me anywhere near Sebring. Too far South & too much bad weather when the storms head this way. I'm further North of the Clearwater/St.Pete area by about 40 miles. And it gets cold here in Hernando County. Hi today was in the 40's....possibly going down even lower tonite. But the Nature Coast, as they call it here, usually doesn't get the damaging wind & storms come hurricanes season....June-November. The first year I lived here...1990...I had frozen pipes overnight, but by 10 in the morn', it was in the 70's.....Joe

Hey Kimmiey, I know what ya mean about trying to spell how we speak! I was sitting here thinking about "ayuh" (yeah) and how we say "cha" for you. As in, "whatcha mean?" I've been trying to watch how I talk, since these posts make it apparent I have a problem. I guess I'm a Geographically Elevated Phonotically Challenged Bluegrass American. Ain't that raght?

To your reply about your accent. I am not southern by no means and would love to be a southern. I find you accents terrific. To me it does not sound stupid. Keep it up!

Hey Joe and Kichen - I just jumped back over here and checked this thread - forgot to keep up with it! Sorry!

1st - don't you dare change your accent!!! Just because we talk that way doesn't mean a hill'a beans - and as long as we understand each other - ain't that all that madders? lol!!!!!

Joe - you know, the storms don't bother me. Mom and Dad moved in April before Charlie, and they had little damage. They are tucked in an area where the only things were roof damage and tree limbs down. Of course they did lose power, but other than that they did okay.

I know we all have our 'tolerations' and I can tolerate the storms much better than the cold! It was 12 degrees during the day yesterday - with a windchill of 8. I cannot tolerate that anymore. The older I get, the worse it is - and I feel like I spend months waiting for life to restart after October. The sun was out for a few minutes this morning - but that was very short-lived.

southernheart - God love ya! I wouldn't wish this on anybody! No , just teasin'. We have a good time joking, but we really do have to know when to tone it down a bit - especially the closer you get to Louisville . Well, downtown, that is. THOSE people look at me as though I am from mars, and I just smile and go on!

It's kinda funny how the 'twang' varies from different parts of the state. You know - if you watch the Dukes of Hazzard enough - you can probably fake it! Just kiddin'! lol!

Have a great day, ya'll!!!
Kimmiey

Well, I was raised in Bullitt County, Kentucky but raised by a mother with an East Coast accent - what a blend. I know how to put some speed in the southern twang. I'm really messed up.

This is a funny thread!

I have what you would call a "lazy tongue" by which i mean i drop my g's and t's are pratically silent. In other words, i don't enunciate my words like an east coaster typically would. I still have alot of the "verbiage" from my childhood down in Harlan county. I tend to say "rewf". (as in roof). I say "ain't" quite often and many other things.
