I'm not hiding anymore either - because I have found a job (start April 2nd) with a guy from Danville - but the business is in Louisville. I can be ME!!!!
And...Joanna - you sit and listen to my kids and it gets worse and worse the louder and longer they talk! I never gave it much thought until I was listening to a plaback on the video camera some time ago. They are little hicks too, and proud of it!
Have a nice day, ya'll!

Help...Kimmie! I deliver to the Louisville-area Meijer stores and LOVE listening to Les Cook and Mack Hunter on KOOL 103.5 in the a.m. One of their advertisers is a power company and I'm ashamed to admit that I STILL don't know the name of it!!! Their spokeswoman, Patsy Whitehead, has a BEAUTIFUL KY accent but I cannot, for the life of me, understand the name of her employer! Is it "Knowland R.E.C.C? No Land R.E.C.C? or No Win R.E.C.C??? Sorry to sound stupid, but I'm really not sure....please advise.

43% dixie, I'd say thats pretty accurate
On that note, feel free to listen to me (the narrator in most cases) speak in my vids, although I'm not the highlight of any of em: http://youtube.com/profile?user=TheCarAudioBox

LOL That reminded me of something funny. I rearranged my living room one time and the next time I turned on the surround sound I heard this really crazy sound, right at a point in a movie that would have been kicking in with the sub.
It took me a minute to realize that my djembe has to be pretty far from it.

Well- I'm late to the party (just registered here today) but thought I'd throw in my two cents.
I am from Ashland and lived there nearly 30 years, so have quite the Eastern Kentucky accent. But for the last 25 years I've lived in South Florida, and in working with my almost 100% Jewish clientel I have picked up more than a little of that accent as well- I can nearly speak Yiddish at this point. My husband was born in NYC, so he has that burden to contend with, and listening to him has influenced me too.
And to add insult to injury he and I tend to make up a lot of words and incorporate them into our speech- we're like twins who have developed their own language.
So we're moving back to Eastern Kentucky (to Russell) in a couple of weeks and we've realized that this odd confabulation of speech patterns may be somewhat off putting to folks. My husband especially is very worried about how the community will accept him. I told him not to wear any NY Yankee hats to work the first few months and it will be fine, but I think he's scared to death. As I'm from there I think he will be accepted- he's a great guy with a kind Irish face and I just hope it goes smoothly for him.
We're not going entirely rural- we found a nice little house with a bit of property, but it is definitely in a "neighborhood". We will definitely be minding our P's and Q's for the first few months!

Hi everyone,
I grew up in Tenn., most of my adult life in NC, been in KY 3 years and I'm getting ready to move to Chicago. When I called the real estate lady in Chicago she asked me where I was from after the first sentence!LOL!
My big problems with moving there is where am I gonna find sweet tea and after I find a job in a school what will the kids think when I start the "Hey darlin!" and "Well, bless his heart!"LOL!

I grew up in Kentucky but moved to Atlanta almost 11 years ago. I've slowly "lost" a lot of my accent. But get me around someone with the same Ky accent and it comes right back. I have a friend from Ky that I went on a road trip with. She lives in Tn but her Ky accent is still very strong. By the time we got where we were going, I had several people commenting on my country accent and wanting to know where I was from. We're going to the race together this weekend so I feel some Kentucky-ese coming on!

Moved here from AZ (actually S. IN outside of Louisville) and find the accent much different than the typical southern accent I've encountered in Fl. Examples: Fire = far , cold = cowd, hold = howd, there = thar or thur , flower = flar, tire = tar, etc. Also, the actual grammer can be interesting. " You know wut we done?" or "Wut wus it you wus wuntin?" LOL! And I hear words like tarnation or dadgum alot. Cracks us up! But as interesting as it is, we are making an effort to keep our child from picking up any aspect of it. I'm afraid when we move away from the area (soon) that his walking into a potential job and asking "Wus you lookin ta har?" might not go over too well. lol
