I used to have a professor with a southern accent as thick as molasses, he would joke that he used it to his advantage because people would misjudge him for it thinking he was a bit 'slower' than than the 'locals' (of course he was not, the man was brilliant, a quick wit, and could quite frankly think circles around most anyone) and as such before everyone would know he'd be miles ahead 'em while they would be scratching their heads thinking "what just happened here". It was very amusing.

when I was talking about my bosses making fun of me it was all in fun, not serious. I imagine that some get it seriously though.

people in kentucky have country accents...not true southern accents...which makes since as it is debatable that kentucky is a southern state at all. Can you be called southern with only one state between us and canada. The accents don't even start until south of lexington so I say the accents we have are country....they don't compare or sound anything like someone from georgia or alabama.

its deffinately a southern accent, people here have the same accents as people in Tennessee, there is a difference between our accent, which is generally a Appalachian Southern Accent and people in North/South Carolina and Georgia who have a Coastal Southern Accent, theyre still both southern thought. And were only one state away from Canada but that really doesnt matter because theres a big lake seperating us too.

When I went to Canada I don't remember swimming or boating a lake... I remember going through Michigan!
