Question NKU to Murray State

Both are in very diffrent locations, I know little about both. Where would you rather go, or if you are older where would you rather your kids go? Why?

Murray is solidly the third best university in the state behind UK and U of L. I like that fact that it has no fraternities, but all residence halls have compete in sports and have their own clubs, etc. I toured Murray back in 2001 and thought it seemed like a very friendly campus.

What will your child/ren be majoring in? Murray is very good for music, NKU is very good for drama.

Murray State has one of the best business schools in the nation. I used to have a friend who went to a private Baptist school and just bragged all the time how hard their studies were and how advanced and yada yada. She decided to take a few business courses at Murray State one summer and dropped out after two weeks. She said they were too advanced and she felt like it would be too much to handle.

Both are good schools and of course I will say Murray, but I am biased. Whatever you do, please don't make your decision based on those dumb US News rankings. Your school has to be an absolute P.O.S. to not make those rankings and it seems like all the schools make them. Murray is in the middle of replacing dorms. They have replaced one already and are working on the second. There will be three more done after that if my math is correct. I have been to the campuses of UT-Martin, SIU-Carbondale, Austin Peay, etc and Murray BY FAR has the best looking campus.

And don't forget, ESPN has ranked Murray State the 30th best college basketball program in history.

If Murray wouldn't have been a 3 hour drive I would have had to flip a coin on whether to go there or U of L. The atmosphere seemed totally different than 'party schools' like Western & Eastern. When you get in the elevator to go on your campus tour there is a large sign saying "Welcome --- " with all the names of the people going on tours that day. When you get off the elevator the staff greets you by name.

The town of Murray has a decent amount of shopping and restaurants, including a Cracker Barrel

I am guessing that you aren't counting Centre and Transy as universitites it that is the case then I agree with you about Murray as third. Not a fan of Greek life? NKU and Murray are very different and I am a firm believer that you can get a good education no matter where you go as long as you put in a lot of effort...that aside the biggest difference is the sorroundings of the colleges. In NKU you will certainly have a lot more in terms of options for things to do on the weekends Covington, the levee, Cincy etc. You will have more places to possibly intern at than Murray due to simply the size of Northern Kentucky and Cincy. For what it's worth I don't know if NKU has a greek system or not but if so it isn't very predominant on the campus and there is plenty of other things to do. They are opening a state of the art sports complex this fall and are hosting UofL for a basketball game this fall. I did'nt go to either but had friends that went to NKU and generally liked it. I wanted to go away for school so that wasn't really an option for me. I think you will enjoy either but you may get bored after three or four years in Murray just one thing to consider.
