I love Paducah! Visited there twice this year searching my husband's relatives and have fallen in love with the city. Could not believe you could actually walk down by the river at NIGHT! We live in the Ft. Worth/Dallas area and would get killed if we did that here. Also, the Noble Park is wonderful with musical events and huge swimming pool.
Please don't anyone write me how bad Paducah is -- I'll invite you here with all our crime and violence. We're having a large family reunion there next summer -- just can't wait.

I might now know nearly as much as you do about Corbin and S.E. Ky., but to say I know nothing is a complete farse. I've lived in four Ky. communities, been to nearly 100 counties, traveled every major highway, and even know practically where every Wal-Mart and most McDonald's locations are. I'm not kidding! I know a lot about this state.
There, had to get that off my chest...
Corbin does have its perks, I'll grant. The Colonel Sanders Cafe. An improved downtown area. NIBROC. Cumberland Falls. Close proximity to Pine Mountain State Park and Cumberland Gap National Park, two of the most beautiful places in the region. But most importantly, the way north on I-75 to a much better town, London.

Why have you spent so much time travelling a state that you seem to despise? For every good thing you say, you say 10 negative things.

Because he's young and he grew up in Kentucky, that's why he's spent so much time travelling and getting to know it. As for the things he says, that's his outlook that he happens to have.

How about the murals on the floodwall, Sue? And. last Sunday, they shut down Broadway from 4th to 21st Streets to be used for only bicycles and walkers. Had a great turnout and plan on doing it again in October.
You mentioned Noble Park. Although the parks dept. put up signs saying it's bad for the ducks and geese, we used to, and have recently, taken kids and grandkids to feed the "critters". We go to Kroger's, just past the park, and buy a loaf of bread for each youngster, and let them go feed the ducks and geese.

I disagree that Barbourville is a dump. They have done alot of work on their little city, including adding a small waterpark, and I think it is cute as a button. They have a nice, downhome feel to the town, and even have a couple of nice yearly festivals. I worked there for a short time in the early 2000's as a home health nurse, and I can honestly say I have never met nicer folks.
As far as land is concerned, they have beautiful rolling acres that you can usually buy for a fraction of what you'd pay elsewhere. If you don't mind nice, quiet, smalltown life, Barbourville is a great little town, IMO.
