Frankfort or Bowling Green
Hi every body. I currently live in Colorado but am considering moving to either to Frankfort or Bowling Green. Any body that lives in either of these areas could you please tell me your thoughts and ideas about these areas. Tell me the good, bad and the ugly. I'm 47 single and love my career. I'm very fortunet because I can live any where.
thank you and take care
Ron

My impressions as a recent BGKY transplant.
The good:
COL is very affordable
It takes 15min to get across town.
Traffic isn't bad.
It really is beautiful. -- When I told people I was moving here from DFW, I would get a pregnant pause, and then people would say "I hear it's beautiful there" in a very sympathetic tone.
The bad:
It took me a little while to get a grip on how the roads are laid out. It doesn't help that there's 3 different names for the same street depending on what section you're on.
Some parts of the town seem kinda run down.
I haven't figured out how to meet people, may be you're better at it than I am.
People talk slower here. Like they have to strive to come up with a sentance sometimes. For me, that can be downright painful. I like legnthy conversations about things, but I don't know anyone for those. Polite chit chat can take forever.
The just plain weird.
I had a checker at Sams ask if I was with my brother. Uhh no, he's my husband. Then she asks if I'm SURE we're not "kin". HUN? I'm pretty sure, but uh, thanks for the interest?
And where else can you find a Pawn Shop called "Shady Ray's"?

Bowling Green is close to Nashville, but far from any other major city. Frankfort is 20 miles from Lexington, 45 miles from Louisville, and 100 miles from Cincinnati.
As for the actual towns, Frankfort has more of river town feel with lots of older neighborhoods and lots of hills. They have a nice bike/ walking trail along the river. Bowling Green has more of a sunbelt boom town feel with lots of suburban shopping centers and new subdivisions, but not many historic areas.

Why these two towns? Anyways, I much prefer Frankfort. Censusdata's analysis is on point. BG looks like a sliver of a sunbelt boom suburb, whereas Frankfort is more historic, walkable, and "refined." IMO.

Could I ask why your choice is between Bowling Green and Frankfort? That way if I know what you are relocating for maybe I can better tell you which place fits the bill better.

Censusdata and stx12499 are right on point!
I'd pick Frankfort anyday over Bowling Green.

I personally would pick Bowling Green over Frankfort. It just offers more in most every way IMO, shopping, housing, restaurants, education, job opportunites, etc. Also, it is only an hour from downtown Nashville for anything you cannot find in Bowling Green. Frankfort is nice town also and does have historic areas. Bowling Green has very interesting historic areas around downtown and campus also and Warren county has some beautiful old historic homes all over if that interests you. It really just depends on what you are looking for.

Bowling Green should be the clear winner. In argument over walking trails, Bowling Green is working hard with its Greenways trails, walk and bike ways to connect different parts of the city. True, Bowling Green is not much of a river city but thats because the barren river is set in more of a gulley. When comparing historic places, that can become subjective. Many cities claim they have historic places, bowling green has something like 12 on the National Register of Historic Places, both Bowling Green and Frankfort have historic houses. But of course, Frankfort is the capitol, so its got that on Bowling Green. Moreover, Bowling Green is making a strong, though disputed effort in revitalizing its downtown which includes a performing arts center and a minor league baseball park. Bowling Green is bigger than Frankfort, which does mean it has more shopping and entertainment, but BG does have its traffic problems. Bg is home to WKU, a growing successful university. In my opinion, there is little comparison, BG would love to have you.
