BGKY elementary schools
Oh man, so we ended up in Plum Springs because of our pit bull. My daughter is going to Bristow and it's not going well.
Today I went to go meet up with her teacher and see what we can do to make the transition easier for her. When I walked into the classroom I was greeted by these signs.
TV is NOT real life; people actually have to leave the coffee shop and get REAL jobs
Your School may have done away with winners and losers - live hasn't- We give you many chances to get it right... Life doesn't
If you think your teacher is tough, wait til you get a BOSS!
Be nice to nerds, chances are you'll end up working for one.
The world won't care about your self esteem as the school does. The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself!
You will not make $40,000 a year right out of school. You will not be a vice president with a car phone until you earn BOTH!
I'm just dumbfounded that this is acceptable for 9yo children. We'll be moving when our lease ends in Dec. What school do I want her in? This kind of thing is totally 100% unacceptable.

In what context were these signs posted? Was this a theme for a bulletin board or something? I don't really get it either. If you have issues, meet with the principal and if that does not work call Dale Brown, the superintendent of Warren County Schools. He is a very nice and caring person and will listen.
As far as schools, here are my recommendations:
County system: Briarwood and Rich Pond
City system: Potter Gray and McNeil
Those are the best IMO and from what I have heard from others, but there are many others that are also good.

They were written on brightly colored construction paper taped to the teacher's desk. They were supposed to be inspirational? At her old school things like "Knowledge is power" were posted.
Thank you for the direction. I'm pretty upset about all of this.

What's wrong with it? All of it's true. I am SO glad I never became a teacher. I would be fired in the first week. And if I made it all the way until Christmas, I would be fired for calling it Christmas. And God-forbid you make the kids say the Pledge of Allegiance. It has the word "God" and as we all know, that has become a four-letter word.
I would be willing to bet that the parent/parents are the only one's worked-up over a sign. Now be sure and get signatures together from other parents so that particular teacher can be fired. I am sure the signs are there for jest. And I would also bet the kids won't make heads or tails out of any of it. Public school went down the tubes when they let overbearing, child-coddling, lawsuit-happy parents run the show. Now don't get me started on sports now that proclaim to have "no winners and no losers" and every player gets a trophy even though they lost the soccer match 28-1. Guess what? No one will be able to coddle and give these kids a trophy 25 years down the road when they screw-up a big deal at work. I shudder for the future (we all heard that before).

kentuckydad95, I agree with you. Although I would like to have seen how those signs were presented, but it is all true. As an EX teacher I have been apalled at the degradation of public education. It is not the teachers as a whole, it is the system they have to work under. There is no way in the world I would teach under those circumstances. All the good younger teachers are persuing different careers, as I did many years ago. And just for the record, I come from a family of educators. Dad had his doctorate degree, older brother and sister both have masters, and wife has masters, ed. specialists, national certs & is working on her doctorate.
To revisit the subject of this thread, it all depends on how the sign was presented in my opinion. If it was (hopefully) done as an inspirational display then I agree. If it was presented in a discouraging or somehow authoritarian light, then I would have a problem with it.
bowlinggreenorbust, I hope you get settled in well and all works out for you. My gut feeling is that everything will be fine.

That is why I asked what context the signs were presented in, they do not seem quite age appropriate. They seem more for high school age kids.

What's wrong with it is that these are 9year old kids. This school is cranking out kids who will work at the Corvette factory and never question or strive for more. I think that's crap.

I think it was some twisted "inspirational" display. It made me ill. I think the teacher is a decent human being, but the school itself is so punitive it's ingrained in them. If I even brought it to their attention they'd have NO idea why I would object.

They are definitely not age appropriate. I'd be annoyed on a HS level, but for 9yos? I'm irate.

What about the signs would cause children to work at the Corvette factory? BTW, the Corvette factory hardly ever hires locals...too many transfers.
