There is a thread going on in the CT forum where such claims are being made. I would be curious to see some of your input on the matter.
I don't agree with that...but some in the thread do. Quasi NYorker Calls CTers "Backwards" |

Well shall the NE bashing begin now? No just kidding, though whenever I do travel to New England I've found that to them, people from our area are completely backwards and ignorant and this is just not so. Frankly even your moderator's comments were a little offensive. I'd love to say a few things here, but I'd probably get into trouble with our mod. here for doing so.

There are areas in every state that get a bad rap. Kentucky is no worse than others.

Of course Kentucky isn't regressive and backward, but every part of the country has its prejudices about other parts. It helps people to feel better about their problems, if they can look down on someone else. So the folks in the Northeast can feel that way if they like - I just say, "whatever".

I do like to think that if a Kentuckian ran over an elderly person in the street, we would have the compassion to stop and help.

What few people know about Kentucky is its historical role in education. Prior to the War between the States, Kentucky's educational network was greater than the Ivy League. The University of Louisville is the oldest city supported school in the nation having been found in 1798. Then there was Transylvania, Centre, Georgetown, and several other schools throughout Kentucky.

Wow.. That's disappointing to see a mod make such a negative and stereotypical comment. Sounds like someone forgot their brain to mouth filter yesterday.

Sounds like somebody wanted to stir things up. I think KY is as progressive as most states, possibly more so. I see a lot of well-established government and nonprofit organizations, lots of universities and community colleges and growth in businesses. Even my small hometown of Bardstown seems to be thriving in these economically depressed times.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And a huge AMEN to that tomocox. I have noticed, when the media turns their spotlight on Kentucky, they almost always have something negative to say about Kentucky folks. Sure, Kentucky has it's problems. But so does every other state in this wonderful country that we call home. |
