I lived 20 miles from Marion in Sturgis for around 25 years. There isn't a lot of jobs around Crittenden County. Going down through Eddyville to I-24, you're between 15 and 20 miles. Kentucky and Barkley lakes are about 10 miles past that. There is an Amish community off US 60 going towards Sturgis. Each home usually has something for sell. Eggs, produce, milk. Friend of mine a couple years ago stopped and bought a half gallon of fresh buttermilk. Came in a Gatorade bottle. Said it was the best he had ever tasted. If you build anywhere in the area (Crittenden, Union, Webster counties and around) or buy a house that needs a little work done, go to the Amish. You can't get any better work done and the price is great. 3 years ago my ex wife had the entire den floor replaced, joists and all. Labor and material, it cost her between $500-$600 and was done in one day.
Marion is about 50 miles from Henderson and another 10 to Evansville, Indiana. In the opposite direction, Paducah is about 50 miles. From Exit 40 on I-24, that's the exit a couple miles past Eddyville, you're about 100 miles from Nashville. It's nice country around Marion and good people.

[quote=tomocox;8891387]Not to argue, but are you speaking from experience as I remember, or from a map?[/QUOTE
Within a 100 mile radius of Paducah, there's very few towns or roads, I haven't been to or driven over.
You think I've got nothing better to do with my time, than to pick out some obscure town on a map, and make a comment about it?

Didn't mean to insult you in any manner. I just find so many people chiming in with only a mapview of the area. Like you, I have driven Union, Crittenden, Webster, & Henderson many many times. I grew up in McLean Co, sold feed and farm supplies in W KY and have always been one to drive the back roads, anyway.

Marion is nice enough, I suppose. It's a very small town. Used to have a thriving, vibrant downtown area (as did lots of little towns), until malls came along.....there is a large Amish population near there.
Yes, the people in Marion are nice.
But I've noticed the people where you move are a lot like the people you leave behind. Wherever you go, there you are.
I trust you have a way to earn a living and will not be depending on the local economy, as western KY is rather depressed economically.
I suggest you visit the area first, before picking up and moving.
